Garfield Elementary School

"I sent my daughter here all the way up to the 4th grade. She was a school of choice kid and I thought this school would be a safer and all around better environment than send her to somewhere in Detroit. First off Id like to make it a point the previous principal was a very good one. Miss Write. I loved her for always being very professional and kind. She always told me information about my kid and took the time to know each kid individually. Theres a k new principle now. There was an incident where my daughter was acused of tripping another kid in the classroom. I picked up my daughter from school and she was in tears saying the principal was interigating her. Asking her if she did it on purpose repeatedly. There was no note in her backpack to notify of of such accident. So I went inside to ask about it. I was informed she would get suspended if they checked the camera and she did. This isn't the worst part .when she went to kindergarten they had no teacher for her for almost be the whole year. She is behind on her grammar and I blame this school. They'd send her home with homework and I'd help her the best I could but she didn't seem to know it half the time. There are some very dedicated wonderful teachers. Such as Ms Rossman, Ms Miller, Ms paryaski, and what used to be the preschool that they moved. There are some amazing teachers but don't think that they'll teach your kid fair if it's a school of choice kid because they won't. My daughter had Ms McBride for second I think and she's the worst teacher in my opinion. Shes never gonna get fired or moved because she's been there the longest in the whole school. She's drink pop in front of the kids all day and is one of those teachers that wants a small child to just sit in their chair and shut up and if they don't they get marked bad. I think the school is corrupt. My kid went every year to the same feild trips. The local police department and ice cream parlor. The kids are supposed to have gym twice a week. That's what their board says but yet for years and years it's only once a week. Where are those tax payers dollars going that fund so much for this school that's constantly raising money. Take my advice don't send your kid here"

"I like the school- In fact, I go to this school.I just think we should STOP USING ALL THE DUMB STUFF! We should be using our money on better lunches, or even airconditioning! Because when it is nearing the end of the year, It gets so hot in the classrooms- especially upstairs. Other than these problems, The school is great!"
