"For me growing up in northern Michigan, the Redwood Steakhouse was a landmark! Known for its weekend steak and seafood specials and Sunday brunch, it was a tradition for people to take a drive from anywhere just to come and eat year-round. It still has the old school appeal. My friend and I stopped in for a cocktail. The prices were great, the waitress was nice and encouraged us to return. I am sorry that I did not get any pics!"
"Apparently, this place is making a comeback. It used to be a popular weekend place known for its steaks and fish with a household history of serving travelling tourists and winter snowmobilers. We just had a nice cocktail and might be back when summer comes."
"In another area with more options this would get 4 stars but for up north, this place gets five stars! The menu has many selections and food is good. The specials list was extensive. I don’t recommend the meatloaf. The dessert is sharing size. This place has trouble seating groups of more than 4 as there is only 2 larger tables. Bar seating available."
"I cannot believe the number of bad reviews. This used to be a top notch restaurant with excellent food and service. I know this because I worked there as a server quite a few years ago. I have not eaten there since the last re-opening because the owners would not honor my gift certificate."
"Took my wife to her birthday dinner at the red wood steak house, neither of us had been here in 10+ years, we also invited another couple to join us. There were about 3-4 other tables in the dining area (1/4 of the tables). We were seated quickly and ordered our drinks and appetizers. They came out quickly and we're very good! That was the best part of the experience. We ordered our entree's and a couple more small tables came in. After about an hour an older women walked up to our server and said " where is our food? We have been here for an hour and a half!" At this time we had probably waited 45 minutes for our food since we placed the order. 15 minutes later they started to bring out our meals. (An hour after we ordered it) my wife ordered the king crab and was extremely excited to have it for her birthday. The waitress told her that the cooks had just checked the temp of it and put it back in because it wasn't up to temp so it would be a few minutes yet before she would receive it. Meanwhile, I ordered the 14 oz sirloin cooked to medium, it was served to me between medium well and we'll. I didn't complain and it tasted pretty good. The other couple that was with us ordered the prime rib (medium rare) , snow crab and lobster. The prime rib was served well done, and sent back. The lobster and snow crab was also over cooked and sent back. The waitress returned with a slice of medium rare prime rib and was good, the snow crab came back cooked better and tasted better. The lobster was never brought back to our table... My wife's king crab when she received it was over cooked and rubbery, I tried some and it didn't taste good at all. We didn't send it back. When we received our bill we had to send it back because it wasn't split like we asked when we arrived. When we got our bills back they weren't correct of who ordered what, but we figured it out between ourselves. The prices on the bill were higher than the menu showed, at the bottom of the bill it shows 2 different prices, one for cash and one with card, they charge a 4% fee for paying with a card, that is something that should be told when you receive your menus. Luckily I has some cash on me... We spoke with the manager about our experience, she was very sympathetic and apologized. She offered the couple we were with some gift cards, they told her to not nevermind because they likely would not be coming back. The manager did not offer myself or my wife any gift cards. She did not offer to comp anything off of either of our bills. mind you, just my wife's entree was $44 and she only ate a very small amount of it. If we ordered a $8 cheeseburger and it wasn't that good we wouldn't have said anything but when you pay a lot for food you expect it to taste at least decent. After myself and the other couple with us paid, we noticed there were extra charges for the mashed potatoes and gravy that on the menue were supposed to be included with our entree's. Also noticed that the lobster that was sent back was never taken off the bill... The manager was told and did nothing to rectify it. All of the manager talking and bill fixing took a long time, we were there for 2 1/2 hours. Not a very good experience, really sad it was for my wife's birthday dinner and she was disappointed. This restaurant definitely has some issues to work on. We might go back in a year or two just to give it another try, who knows, maybe everyone working was having an off night."
