Torrey Dental Care

"In February of 2020, I made an emergency appointment at Torrey Dental Care for an abscessed tooth. Dr. Torrey was unable to perform the necessary treatment, but he was able to find an endodontist in the area that was able to get me in that same day. While on the phone with said endodontist, Dr. Torrey told me what time I needed to get there and roughly how much it would cost. He then asked me, “You gonna’ be able to give him some money?” in a tone which came across as rude and oddly aggressive. Dr. Torrey and I made small talk after this phone call, and he inquired about my life. I mentioned that I had just gotten back from studying abroad, to which he smugly asked, “Which one?” (“Abroad” means in or to a foreign country or countries, and “a broad” is an outdated, derogatory slang term used to refer to a woman.) Needless to say, this tone-deaf attempt at a joke did not sit well with me. Not long after this initial appointment, I called Dr. Torrey’s office and spoke with the receptionist about some additional dental work I needed done at the time. I politely asked if they offered any sort of financial aid, to which I was told they did not. I explained that I would like to shop around for a dentist’s office in the area which did offer financial aid before setting up another appointment with Dr. Torrey, and we ended the call on a seemingly good note. A week or so after this phone call, I received a letter in the mail from Dr. Torrey explaining that I was being dismissed from his practice for having said all this over the phone. It’s clear that there was some sort of miscommunication between the receptionist and Dr. Torrey because I had said nothing about “returning to my previous dentist”. Essentially, I was fired as his patient for expressing my need for a dentist’s office that offered financial assistance. I fail to see how it’s appropriate or justified to formally dismiss a patient simply because they wish to shop around first for another office that better fits their financial needs. I have attached a photo of the aforementioned letter."

"They do NOT do cleanings!!! I called & left a vm asking if they were taking new paitence for CLEANINGS!!! the dentist himself called me back. I asked again for CLEANING HE SAID YES!!! ME & MY husband went in. He did x rays & looked @ my mouth & said your doing good. Then went to leave? I asked what about my cleaing? He.said we dont do that anymore???? I told my husband & we left. I felt like he did that on purpose, obviously he did? It doesn't make any sense to go to a dentist just for x-rays. WTH And I only gave the one star because I had to put something. ."

"He is excellent and does great work. I have had 2 crowns installed by him. Very old school office and they sometimes run late, but he is honest unlike other dentist offices in my experience. He works with you depending on your situation. I highly recommend him. I went in to the office expecting to pull a tooth and he refused due to possible shifting. He fixed my smile and confidence."

"Great Dentist enjoyed the entire visit, contrary to others he is actually a really down to earth very nice and knowledgeable dentist. Does a very good dental exam. X-Rays are noticeably clearer than other dental offices. Also does a good physical dental exam which is rare now, I would recommend coming here for a final opinion or as your first dentist or accurate treatment. Also even though his hours are a smaller window still come in for bigger procedure he said he can add time for people, and I would certainly trust his dental work. He is old fashioned but certainly trustworthy dental work and exam. Only thing I wish is I had come in sooner to him. Thank you Dr.Torrey."
