"Great place to search for fossils, hammer and gloves are a must, watch for snakes, saw two but just garter, found really cool stuff like corals and shells out in the open"
"Awesome place to hunt for fossils! We were driving right by here on a vacation so stopped for a while. Definitely worth it. It doesn’t appear to be maintained much if at all, but it’s still open. We found a few dozen really nice fossils, including some partial trilobites and complete brachiopods. The shale is soft enough to break by hand so you don’t need any tools. This is literally a field out in the middle of no where and there are no facilities of any kind, so be prepared for that. It’s hot and there is no shelter so bring plenty of water!"
"Really cool place. I've been there twice but a little shelter or something would be awesome. Somewhere where folks could take some of the fossils they found to clean them up a bit in the shade! Nonetheless, excellent place to take kids to learn about fossils and get them out of the house and away from the screens! Bring some hammers!"
"It's seriously a rock pile. But, there are fossils everywhere. So that's cool. Bring a hammer, an old toothbrush and a bucket. Wear crudy shoes. It can be muddy and dirty. Good times though."
"Outstanding Devonian (Silica Formation) fossil hunting for a wide range of brachiopods. Also horn corals, bivalves, bryozoans, and trilobite fragments are abundant. Occasional complete enrolled trilobites are found as well as bits of placoderm (fish) armor. Much praise is due LaFarge Quarry for providing this opportunity to the community. Great place to get kids and adults interested in fossils and natural history. Brachiopods include: Orthospirifer cooperi, Stropheodonta demissa, Stropheodonta spp., Mucrospirifer sp., Cyrtina sp., Athyris sp., Pseudoatrypa sp., Devonochonetes sp., Megastrophia concava, and others."
