"Uninspired and often unsafe setting, rude staff, minimal training space/equipment, old textureless walls, and strange gyms policies such as using Gri gris tethered to the floor and requiring a barrel knot in addition to the figure 8 knot - teaching that this improves safety. Don’t waste your money here. Head to cincy or Columbus if you’re hoping to have any semblance of a good experience."
"Great adaptive reuse. Climbing in an old church is a unique experience. My friend and I both thought the boulder problems were accurately graded and creative. Minor issues includes lack of auto-belay, extremely old and outdated bathrooms, and having a members-only night seems unnecessary as if we were unlucky to have visited during that day, we wouldn't have been able to enjoy the place. Other than that, we very much enjoyed our time here."
"We had a great time at this gym! I haven't climbed for over 7 years and we were able to schedule a belay certification and do our waivers online before hand to save time. I made a mistake and read the time wrong on our scheduled time, but the staff were super understanding and told us it was not a problem to come in later for it. We brought our 5 year old back for her first climb and she got stuck at the top and their climbers were so encouraging and helpful. Someone offered to belay me up there so I can help her down. Overall, we love that this is such an intimate gym!"
"Oof. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a front desk worker. My friend and I came for a day pass and rentals. The worker was disrespectful, rude, and generally unhelpful. He was very confusing and did not offer any solutions (we are certified belayers at other gyms and this was our first time at Urban Krag). He was inpatient and seemed generally annoyed. My hope is that his day got better because it must have pretty bad when we walked in. We will likely not be returning to this gym because of this interaction. Aside from this interaction, the other workers were very helpful and kind. The gym itself is good, kind of small and the bouldering routes aren’t great. Fair pricing. The atmosphere is fun and encouraging."
"Some of these reviews are confusing. I guess people like to complain about trivial things. Yes, Monday is a member's night only. Leaving a bad review because you didn't get an exception to a rule is very Karen. It's posted on their website. The owner doesn't have your typical "customer service" voice or demeanor, but that doesn't make him rude. That being said, I rarely ever even see him, and I've been going regularly for six months. The routes are changed frequently. Their difficulty scale, while not exactly standard, works a lot better than the typical numeric scale, which is highly arbitrary. They also have a weight room, and I frequently use the pull-up bar. They've crammed a lot of routes into a small building, and there are some unique touches they've added. Yeah the parking lot is terrible, but that's how it was when it was a church ⛪. I've had to park in the street a few times. Overall I've had a great experience. The routes are challenging, with many different styles, the staff are friendly, and the price is competitive. Update: We had a member route setting night, which was incredibly fun."
