"Summa care has been an absolute nightmare to work with. I highly advise to stay away from such an egregious company. I have had the insurance last year and renewed for this year. I had auto pay setup and they for some reason changed the payment date and I had to approve the new payment date. I was out of town and didn’t get to my mail in time which resulted in termination of my account. They know exactly what they are doing to people . I didn’t receive any emails or phone calls about them dropping me. I went to a couple doctor’s visits and got some crazy bills so I called and they told me I was terminated because I didn’t approve the new payment date. The payment date should remain the same as it was the prior year! I paid every month on the first using auto pay. What a scam of a company . I wouldn’t trust this company at all. Im currently in the process of suing this company. DO NOT USE SUMMA CARE!!"
"Worst insurance company ever. My 95 year old, war veteran grandfather has them. He had to go to the hospital and then to a care home for physical therapy and rehab. SummaCare decided to notify us the day after coverage ended on his nursing home care that his coverage ended. Then they told us we didn't file a timely appeal even though they didn't notify us. When we called in to try to get this sorted out, a woman that introduced herself as Kim hung up on us. Then we called again and were informed by another person that we have to send an email to start the appeals process. Now we're stuck paying $300/day for my grandfather to get the care he requires. Insurance companies shouldn't be able to stop paying for something a doctor orders. Pick any other company over this one when choosing insurance for yourself or someone you love."
"How do you go from an estimate of $0 to a bill of $825 for an x-ray of a finger? If we got an estimate for a closer amount to what the cost was, we never would have agreed to get the x-ray. Hence the reason for an estimate. Answer we got was, we don't guarantee the amount. Duhh, we know that but you cannot explain $0 to $825! That is inexcusable!!"
"After dealing with SummaCare customer service and their supposed quality assurance department, I can see why hospitals are dropping Medicare advantage plans. This year (early 2023) a SummaCare representative argued about putting in a complaint against University Hospitals for a billing error. The employee in Akron was very argumentative, and my wife even observed that it looked at times that I was begging her to put in the complaint. The employee finally obliged and put in the dispute against the billing error however, when we got the paperwork back from SummaCare, she failed to put in one of the errors which resulted in SummaCare saying I owed money. Fortunately, at the same time, seeing how this employee was being uncooperative, I had also put in a BBB complaint against University Hospitals and the billing error wound up getting resolved. So I wound up putting in a complaint against the employee and SummaCare through the BBB. SummaCare manager, contacted me and assured me that the employee and the department would be addressed as far as properly taking down complaints, and not being argumentative. The manager had lied to me - unfortunately, after I closed out the BBB complaint, SummaCare decided to dismiss the complaint, claiming that it was past 60 days. But interesting to note nowhere in the complaint did SummaCare reference the issues with the employee and the department. In other words, SummaCare misrepresented my complaint. Time to get the regulatory agencies involved. May contact our US Senator as well since it appears that many hospitals are bailing on this failed concept of Medicare Advantage "insurance". Good grief the Feds have a tough enough time keeping their own employees under control how do expect them to control their "Medicare Advantage" flunkies?"
"Had my 4th back surgery, which was a 2nd fusion by Dr. Hartsfeld and his team. From walking in for presurgery 2 weeks earlier and up to the moment of leaving, I felt like I was treated the best I could be. Even when I was a total **s*ole the 1st morning after surgery the RN staff was all so professional and genuinely friendly and caring. I do need to take a moment to mention the catering staff. The food was not only good, but the delivery of my trays was done by kind faces."
