"Update: we've been back a few times. The appetizers are very good. We had a group and ordered most of them and shared. The entrees have been fair at best. The lobster roll doesn't seem like it used to. My husband had the seafood Pappardelle, it was fair, the pasta was overcooked, and part of it was all clumped together. 1 person was happy with their meal. Lobster bisque, sesame noodles, lobster roll, and filet."
"I visited Chowder House with my family recently, excited to try this cute and cozy spot in the Valley. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We ordered a dozen oysters as an appetizer (currently in season) which we love and often enjoy all over Akron. When the oysters arrived at our table, we noticed that all but 2 were tipped over and completely dry/had no brine in the shell. Not ideal, but we decided to go ahead and try to enjoy them. We each ate one oyster and realized that they were still connected to the shell (bad shucking/preparation) and were noticeably fishy in taste and smell. My oyster was so poor in quality that I couldn't swallow it, and I returned it to its shell. When we addressed this issue with our waitress, she was dismissive, claiming she received no previous complaints. She also angrily asked me “did you even try yours?!” while looking at my plate and walking away before I had the chance to tell her that I did indeed try it, but it was so inedible that I returned it to the plate. We were stunned by her attitude. To salvage our dinner, we ordered the crab cakes as a back-up appetizer, which were very good. However, upon receiving the bill at the end of the meal, we noticed we were still charged for all of the oysters. We love to support local restaurants and really do not usually send food back, but because of the poor service we will not be returning. I hope this helps improve things for others who eat here in the future."
"Usually our go to for good seafood! Tonight a different story! From the Lobster Bisque to the Pan Seared Scallops w/ risotto which was under cooked! They did take off one of the dinners! I guess will have to find a new place for special occasions! Was our 34th wedding anniversary!"
"My wife and I enjoy finding places we’ve not been to for dinners out. The Chowder House is one of these places that we didn’t know about until I happened to be in the area for work and spotted this gem. I made reservations for a Friday night and we drove an hour for our first dining experience and visit to “The Valley”. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. We started with the arancini balls with a red sauce, these were at the top of the list for the best we’ve ever had and the sauce was amazing. Next we both had a bowl of the lobster bisque and it had great flavor. As a second starter we shared the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was tender and the seasoning delicious. My lady had the scallops with acorn squash pastry special and I had the lobster ravioli. We both enjoyed every bite. To finish we shared creme brulee and salted caramel cheesecake. Our waitress took great care of us bringing each course out at the right time without rushing or delaying the dinner. We totally enjoyed dinner at the Chowder House and are looking forward to returning."
"One of the best cafe's in the Akron area. Outstanding food and service. The atmosphere is cheerfully eclectic with an artful flare. The Twisted noodles, Savanah's Best, and Chopped Wedge Salad were excellently prepared and presented. Pure white linen table cloths, perfectly weighted cutlery, and simply designed water glasses all added to the experience. Renee, our service provider was attentive, polite, and responsive. The Cafe gets my triple A stamp of approval and is highly recommended. Bravo Chef Louis Prpich, et al for a pleasurable dining experience. Not to my liking, they charge a fee to use a credit card."
