"This is the concise version. I would be happy to share the full version if/when space permits... I scheduled a full bag fitting. I established a clear $1000 budget at the beginning. I wrongly expected a driver or less expensive set of irons after fitting fees. I was instructed to warm up with my 32-degree 6-iron. A baseline was established via Trackman. I was then given three less expensive irons to compare, and then one of the most expensive clubs, 2023 Callaway Big Bertha. These were all "6-irons" although I now know teh Big Bertha 6 is 24 degrees--more comparable to my 4-iron. This was never explained. I became enamoured with the Trackman results and a sales push was made. My $1000 budget could get me three (3) Big Bertha irons. Who would recommend this during a full bag fitting? When I questioned this the fitter lead me to a fourth club and pushed me into a $1479.99 purchase--50% over budget for four clubs. Shame on me? Yes, but shame on any fitter that would push this approach without looking at the full picture--especially during a full bag fitting. The next day was a very busy work day for me, so I didn't reach out to cancel my order until the following morning. I was given a no exceptions, "No." Minutes later I received an email from Club Champion notifying me that parts were on order and that my clubs could not be assembled until they were received. I forwarded the message and again asked to cancel. Again, no. Seven weeks passed before I was notified that my clubs were ready for pickup. During that time I learned about the lofts, learned that I should have been tested for lie angle and given the opportunity to swing clubs with different grip sizes. I have learned that a "full bag fitting" should not end as soon as I agreed to the sale, and that nothing should have been pushed on me until after the fitting was complete (so that a reasonable decision within budget could be made). I have shared this story with several local golfers. All have recommended other fitters, especially Golf Guys in Estero and Edwin Watts in Fort Myers. Most agree that even retail stores like Golf Galaxy and PGA Superstore do a better job with respect to experience and value."
