"I retained the Houser Firm to represent me in my divorce from my wife. I felt that my case was fairly basic considering my Wife and I are only contesting one asset. I expressed constantly that we must keep expenses down regarding the use of my retainer. I was never notified prior to any action that was going to eat up a large portion of my retainer. I was notified one day prior to the Mandatory Disclosure submittal deadline that they blew through my second retainer payment of $3500.00 and would need another $3500.00 immediately to continue work on my case. What can I do to keep costs down? They should notify you prior to performing a task that is going to use a large portion of your retainer. Once a Lawyer gets your retainer, their goal is to ethically and effectively bill you enough hours to keep as much of the retainer as possible. Just keep that in mind."
