"On Feb 16th 1964, one of the coldest nights of the year and the night of The Beatles second appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, my 11 year old self and 14 year old friend took his little skiff out to explore the island. Upon our return to where we beached the skiff, we saw it floating away almost out of sight. After about 4 hours of freezing in the dark my friend decided to swim for it. He stripped down to his underwear and swam to the nearest house about 600 yards to the west. I'm sure they were surprised to see a 14 year old boy in his underwear on their back porch but they let him in. I stayed on the island and was rescued by the Sarasota Sheriff's Patrol. I missed John, Paul George and Ringo. Would not recommend this island."
