The Nature Conservancy Blowing Rocks Preserve 574 South Beach Road, Hobe Sound, FL 33455
About the Business
The Nature Conservancy Blowing Rocks Preserve, located at 574 South Beach Road in Hobe Sound, Florida, is a park and tourist attraction that showcases the beauty of Florida's native coastal habitats. This peaceful sanctuary is home to endangered plants and animals, including loggerhead, green, and leatherback sea turtles. The preserve features the largest rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline on the Atlantic coast, where waves crashing against the rocks create plumes of saltwater up to 50 feet high during high tide.
Visitors to Blowing Rocks Preserve can enjoy swimming and snorkeling, although there is no lifeguard on duty. The preserve also offers opportunities for citizen science through the iNaturalist app, where visitors can submit photos of plants and wildlife observed during their visit. The beach and ocean conditions at the preserve are always changing, with calm waters in the summer months and rough seas in the winter months causing the famous "blowing rocks" phenomenon.
The preserve was established in 1969 through a generous donation of land by residents of Jupiter Island, and has since undergone extensive habitat restoration efforts. Volunteers and community members have contributed thousands of hours to restore native habitats and remove invasive species, creating a thriving ecosystem for both wildlife and visitors to enjoy. The preserve also offers educational programs, guided tours, and volunteer opportunities for those interested in learning more about conservation and environmental stewardship.
Blowing Rocks Preserve is a testament to the success of conservation efforts in Florida, and serves as a model for large-scale habitat restoration. Visitors are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines during their visit, and to respect the native habitats and wildlife that call the preserve home. Whether you're interested in exploring the rocky shoreline, observing nesting sea turtles, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the preserve, Blowing Rocks offers a unique and educational experience for nature lovers of all ages.

"Absolutely beautiful there. We explored the rocks and found some really cool shells. Parking is very limited, so if you are going plan on being there when they open."
"I recently had the opportunity to visit The Nature Conservancy's Blowing Rocks Preserve in Florida, and it was an absolutely breathtaking experience. This preserve is a hidden gem along the Florida coast, offering a stunning display of natural rock formations and beautiful ocean views. The high, limestone rocks against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean create a picturesque scene that is both unique and awe-inspiring. The preserve also offers well-maintained trails that make it easy to explore and appreciate the diverse flora and fauna. I was particularly impressed by the efforts to protect and conserve the area's natural beauty. The educational signs along the paths provide valuable insights into the local ecosystem and the importance of conservation. This place is a must-visit for nature lovers and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful and scenic escape. The tranquility and beauty of Blowing Rocks Preserve truly make it a remarkable and memorable destination in Florida."
"A truly unique Florida experience! I’ve lived in Florida for 20 years and visited a large number of state parks and preserves but this area really is something unique in our very low to sea level, flat state! There’s a lovely visitors center and Intracoastal boardwalk opposite the main beach entrance with informative displays and bathrooms. The short walk to the beach access leads to two sets of wooden stairs down to the beach and ocean. You can then walk along to the right to view the coral formations and appreciate the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. It was overcast and chilly the day of our visit but that just added to the wonder! There is disabled parking on both sides of the road and the trail to the beach is pretty even. To access the beach as I said there are steps to navigate and the sand is very soft so walking is challenging if you have mobility issues. Overall well worth a visit!"
"Blowing Rocks is truly breathtaking. Delight in the beauty of the beach, where waves crash against the rocks, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Depending on the tide, you might explore within the rocks or witness them submerged. The presence of a trail and beach adds versatility to this stunning natural haven. A must-visit for those seeking both coastal charm and scenic trails."
"This was my 2nd time there. The beach was beautiful and clean. They have buckets you can use if you want to pick up any rubbish. Which people were. I had forgotten about all of the storms we've had, about 80 per cent of the rocks and caves were filled in with sand. Still, a beautiful day there and the trails across the street. Very pleasant."
