The Island Hotel & Restaurant, located at 373 2nd Street in Cedar Key, Florida, offers a unique blend of casual elegance and delicious dining experiences. Guests can choose to dine in the inviting dining room or on the screened porch, enjoying a menu that focuses on fresh seafood and local produce.
Originally purchased by Bessie and Gibby Gibbs in 1946, the restaurant quickly became known for its high-quality seafood dishes. Over the years, different owners have continued to uphold the restaurant's reputation for excellence. Under the ownership of Marcia Rogers in 1980, Chef Jahn McCumbers helped elevate the menu to include a variety of whole foods, attracting diners from around the region.
In 2004, Andy and Stanley Bair took over the hotel and restaurant, working with Chef Jahn to refine the menu while keeping classic favorites like Crab Bisque and Key Lime Pie. When Chef Jahn decided to pursue new opportunities in 2013, Assistant Chef Kim Cash seamlessly stepped into the Head Chef position, bringing her own creative ideas to the kitchen.
In addition to the restaurant, the Island Hotel offers lodging for guests looking to explore Cedar Key and the surrounding area. A complimentary full breakfast is provided for hotel guests, and catering services are available for weddings, conferences, and family events.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing getaway or a memorable dining experience, the Island Hotel & Restaurant provides a welcoming atmosphere and delicious cuisine that will please all guests. Be sure to visit the lounge bar, featuring murals of Cedar Key and King Neptune, for a cozy and TV-free environment to unwind and enjoy a drink.

"The hotel is an interesting stop for anyone interested in the history of Cedar Key and a great spot to have dinner too. We walked into the hotel and looked at the dining room. It looked just a bit stuffy to us. Then we discovered Neptune's Lounge and it looked like the people eating and drinking in there were having a lot more fun. So we had dinner at the bar with the large mural of King Neptune, called Neptune's Lounge. We enjoyed every minute of our time there and the food too. The woman tending bar was busy at the time, but kept up with our needs in the process. We tried the Calypso Pasta dinners, shrimp pasta and chicken pasta. Both were great. We met the owner too, which was nice that he stopped in to greet visitors like us. The best part was hearing all the stories around us, from the bartender, locals and visitors like us. The best one was how the mural of Neptune got its bullet holes. There are so many stories about this hotel, we want to come back just to hear more. This was a great evening in a very friendly kind of place."
"The first time my dad had been here to eat, it was amazing. He had a ribeye and added the grouper, it was expensive but very good, so good in fact he was excited to bring the entire family. We came back as a family and ordered some crab bisque. 17 dollars for a bowl, it is a thick cream base and it is excellent. my mom ordered the fish special which was pecan crusted fish of choice (red snapper) and it tasted different, had a sweet flavor but slightly pungent after taste. She didn’t finish even half of it. I ordered the scallop seafood entree and for 35 dollars I expect good scallops. I got 10 nickel sized scallops. If you order these only get them cooked in BUTTER or they’ll be swimming in flavorless olive oil. For 35 dollars I expected big juicy flavorful scallops. I also expected some honey glazed or just scrumptious baby carrots as a side but instead the chef just shaved some carrots on my plate and called that a side. My point is, if you are going to value yourself as 5 stars and have the persona of being a 5 star dinning experience, you should be one. It’s just slightly confusing. The waitress was amazing and she hustled around the entire dinning room."
"We had dinner there on Saturday. There was live entertainment scheduled at 6:30 by Jim and Marci and all tables were reserved. We were there at 5:15, so we were seated by Grace and allowed to eat before the 6:30 reservation arrived. We ordered Ahi Tuna salad, and it was cooked to perfection. As it turned out, a couple could not make it that night, so we moved to their seats and stayed a few hours for Jim and Marci. What a wonderful experience. Grace is an amazing waitress, and we enjoyed her immensely."
"Had a wonderful night stay in this 1859 hotel and restaurant in adorable quaint Cedar Key. We love old and funky, and this was perfect. The price was reasonable, the room has no TV but we didn't care. Antique dresser, antique bed, firm mattress, high ceilings, vintage bathroom but water is great! Wonderful breakfast served to order and the waitress and front desk ladies were so sweet!"
"A cute hotel/restaurant situated in a historic building in downtown cedar key. Rooms are not spacious nor well appointed but they are clean & well maintained. The balcony is a perfect place to sip morning coffee. The staff was very friendly & eager to assist you. Food was very good, recommend trying the clam pasta. Cocktails are surprisingly good."
