Reviews of Birthways Family Birth Center
"I highly recommend Birthways to all expecting mothers. I delivered my first baby at their birth center yesterday morning and got to have the birth of my dreams. All the girls in there have a heart of gold and I was listened to and supported throughout my pregnancy journey. They have tons of resources for expecting mommas to take advantage which really helped me prepare for birth. During labor, Midwife Jennifer was amazing. She followed my birth plan with care and was so helpful, I felt safe and strong the whole time. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to the Birthways team! Update: I delivered baby #2 at Birthways 11/2023 with midwife Aliaja and student midwife Maguire. My experience was just as pleasant as my first, if not better. I love the Birthways staff and will continue to use them with any future pregnancies."
"My wife Alexa and I recommend and wholeheartedly say to anyone that wants a natural, home-like birth, in the Sarasota area, please consider and choose having your baby boy or girl at Birthways. We just had first child, our handsome baby boy a couple of days ago at Birthways and it was such an amazing experience. When my wife went into more active-labor (and even pre-labor) midwife Shavani was on call and would take all our phone calls when what to expect and was so patient, knowledgeable, and above all else was kind. When it was "GO TIME" Shavani was still on call and was there through our entire birthing process. We are so happy she was because she is hands-down an incredible blessing to us and we like her so much. Mcguire and Sabrina and a little bit of Tracy (forgive me if I misspelled their names) were also there and were so great and equally wonderful and helpful. Mcquire was so encouraging and sweet and Sabrina was very helpful and assertive when needed. They were especially helpful when labor was the toughest and they knew what to how to encourage my wife in those moments so beautifully. My wife's labor was altogether a 40 + hour labor, and they were so helpful. We are so thankful to Birthways, but especially Shavani. God has given her a great gift in being an amazing midwife. I had a special request in being the first to deliver my son, and they were so accommodating not only in that but every other aspect in the whole process."
"I’ve had a fantastic experience at Birthways. I had no idea what to expect of my pregnancy and birth. When I found out I was pregnant (unexpectedly) I went to a traditional obgyn that had great reviews. I did not like it one bit. I felt rushed, I saw the ob for about 3-5min most and felt like I was in a drive through with a doctor setting. Sure enough, I decided to transfer my care to Birthways. The amount I would end up paying for insurance deductibles would be very close to what I would spend with a midwifery care. It was the best decision! Every appointment was long, they made sure to make me feel comfortable, heard and safe. My birth center birth was perfect, quiet and cozy. I cannot imagine having the experience at a hospital setting. Thank you so much Birthways family! I could not have done this without you!"
"I would recommend Birthways to every single person who is pregnant in the area, whether it’s your First or Fourth child. I cannot speak highly enough about Christina and the entire staff there. From our first appointment to our labor and delivery last night, we felt extremely welcome and comfortable. Every midwife we met was very knowledgeable, caring and attentive. We had the privilege of Christina delivering our baby girl and couldn’t be more pleased. She might be the most patient person I’ve encountered. Once you step into Birthways there is no possibility of going back to a hospital. Thank You Christina and the Birthways team for everything you do!"
"I do not recommend Birthways. I would absolutely recommend any other birth center in the area, even if it is a further drive. From my experience, Birthways staff has very poor communication, they are particularly bad listeners, they are uninformed on low-risk versus high-risk pregnancies, they have poor billing practices, and they are eager to send their clients unnecessarily to the hospital. I choose birth centers because I want to avoid hospitals and I want care providers who support my ability to birth without medication. I came to Birthways after moving during my 3rd trimester of my 2nd pregnancy. I fit all the criteria for a low risk birth, and already had a successful birth center birth under my belt. Right off the bat, Birthways forgot to send me a link to their portal, so I had to spend half of my first prenatal visit completing paperwork. I didn’t feel relaxed in the least. Then I was informed that because of placental pools that showed on my 20 week ultrasound months ago, that they would not treat me unless I received another ultrasound (this was uninformed because placental pools have no correlation with negative outcomes, and absolutely does not qualify a pregnancy as high-risk). So the midwife directed me to a place at the hospital which she only referred to by a four-letter acronym. I made it clear that this would be an hour drive for me and that my former birth center was not concerned, but they said that they would not see me unless I got the ultrasound. So my husband and I made the drive to the hospital, went to the unit the midwife told us to, and we were completely shocked when it turned out that we were standing in the ER. I noted on my intake paperwork that this was a “non-emergent ultrasound ordered by Birthways.” Within a few minutes, the charge nurse came out and explained that Birthways often misuses the ER for non-emergent ultrasounds, and that she didn’t want me to be billed the ER amount without knowing this. Thank goodness that charge nurse was there to explain this. What in the world is Birthways doing using emergency services for non-emergent situations? What an abuse. When I called to tell Birthways this, the charge nurse even spoke to the office manager on my cell phone, and Birthways was completely unapologetic for wasting my time. Then I was sent on a wild goose chase after this to get an ultrasound through appropriate means. Finally, I got ahold of one of the midwives to make sure I truly needed an ultrasound, come to find out the midwives had finally realized placental pools are not a risk factor and that an ultrasound was not needed. Yet, they did not update their office manager, so she continued to push for the ultrasound until finally a midwife told her at our next prenatal visit. Phew, I thought, great now we can move on from this. Well at my second prenatal visit, the midwife informed me that if I didn’t go into labor by my 40 week due date, that I would need to go to that same ultrasound place which she was still referring to as a four-letter acronym (yes, it was the emergency room again!). I felt absolutely appalled at this point and transferred after this second appt. Birthways does not realize that pregnant people who seek out birth centers do not want to unnecessarily spend time at the hospital, and they certainly do not want to spend their due date at the hospital! Don’t all birth centers understand that a term of 37-42 weeks for a low risk pregnancy is completely normal? Birthways apparently does not. When I calmly and politely expressed my dissatisfaction and requested a refund, the office manager reacted very defensively, and I never heard from Kristina who operates the birth center even though I asked to talk with her. Well, thank God I found a knowledgeable, compassionate, experienced birth center and ended up having my baby at 42 weeks with zero complications. And now, almost one and a half years since my horrible experience with Birthways which I tried to forget, they just now sent me my very first bill and it includes a year’s worth of late fees. SMH."
