"It is a great place to learn Aikido. Sensei Bonner thoroughly teaches the physics and subtleties of the art that truly help the practitioner use the art in a real life situation."
"I have been a student with Bonner Sensei at the Shorin-Bushido Dojo, hosted at the Kelly Recreation Center in Lakeland, for over 12 years. I started as a Ki Shin Kai Aikido student in 2010 and, after 18 months, decided to give Pearson-ha Shobiyoshi Shorin-Ryu Karate a try instead. I have been studying Karate with Bonner Sensei for about 10 years now and have been immeasurably grateful for the journey. Bonner Sensei has been teaching Karate for over 40 years and his knowledge, teaching skills, and patience are second to none. Bonner Sensei added a Saturday Aikido class several years ago and I have been fortunate enough to participate in that as well. Bonner Sensei has over 20 years of Aikido experience and has helped me learn to (mostly) relax, find my center (of which I have plenty), and to move with less tension (relatively speaking), all of which helps my Karate. As I arrive at my middle-age, I have had to reconcile myself to the fact that I am not 22 anymore. Sensei teaches in a way that accommodates my change in strength and flexibility and will allow me to enjoy both Karate and Aikido for years to come. Previously, I have studied Tang Soo Do, Shaolin Kenpo Kung Fu, and Hapkido (briefly!). Great styles all and I am grateful for those experiences as well. Those experiences, however, do not come close to measuring up to those I've been fortunate enough to have these past 12+ years, and it was serendipitous indeed to have joined Sensei in class back in 2010. It is gauche to discuss money in regards to martial arts training, but I would be remiss if I didn't offer this observation: at the time of this review, Sensei only charges $40 a month for 24 hours of high quality training (16 Aikido, 8 Karate), and that is a value you cannot find anywhere else. Students are rightly expected to come to class prepared to learn, and to practice outside class as they continue their journey along "The Way." Presuming they come with the right attitude and mindset, it will be a fruitful and rewarding experience that adds richness to every aspect of their lives."
"Sensei Bonner is a patient and attentive leader and really wants you to learn proper technique and the reasons behind the movements. The class is very enjoyable and it's always a good atmosphere with people of all levels and ages together."
"I have been practicing Aikido at Shorin-Bushido Dojo for a few years, now. Sensei Bonner has a wealth of experience in Aikido and Karate, and is an instructor for both arts. The dojo is a great environment to learn in, and Sensei Bonner is well seasoned in training students at all levels of experience. When I first came to the dojo, I had never practiced a martial art in my life, and was unsure of what to expect. However, by following Sensei's guidance and observing your seniors, the dojo will soon begin to feel like home. The years that I have spent training with my fellow Aikidoka have been some of the best years of my life, and have helped me to grow as a person. I highly recommend Shorin-Bushido Dojo if you are looking for a complete martial arts experience."
"I began studying martial arts as an adult as a means to be physically active and to learn a new skill. I never could have imagined I would be welcomed into a community so caring and dedicated as this one. Sensei Bonner and his students have been patient and kind in their instruction, and their tireless efforts speak volumes of their passion."
