Plantation Resort on Crystal River 9301 West Fort Island Trail, Crystal River, FL 34429

"Good location to be close to attractions and activities around Crystal River, but the facility is old, tired, and in desperate need of a complete make-over. The rooms are really beat-up, and the hallways leading to the rooms have worn out carpeting and it smells like an infirmary. It's advertised as a 3 star resort, I would give it a 2 stars (hotel - not resort) at best. Make sure you understand the fees if you book a room; while the nightly room fee was quoted for us at $142, the added resort fee and taxes made it close to $188 per night! The restaurant boasts an "executive" chef - the food we received for dinner was not flavorful and unappealing. Find a different restaurant in the area - there's better choices and lower prices. I would not recommend this facility."

"If this hotel were $85-100 a night I’d probably have given it 5 stars. But for just shy of $200 a night it was a total rip off. The grounds of the property are very beautiful and the fountain in the front is an awesome photo spot. Thankfully our room didn’t have the sanitary/cleanliness issues as many other reviews have noted. However, it was definitely a highly run down room. I checked our booking and a microwave was listed in the amenities, but there was no microwave in the room. There were these odd sliding cabinet doors hiding the mini fridge & coffee maker that took two people to pry open which was very frustrating because we needed to use both. The mini fridge is truly the MINI-est fridge Ive ever seen so keep that in mind! We are road tripping with lots of food so it was a Tetris puzzle to fit it all the refrigerated food we brought in there, and we didn’t have much at all. The luggage carts were so intensely rickety I was terrified they were going to fall apart. The walls are very thin, I woke up like 60 times from noises and voices in the hallways. Our bathtub faucet CONTINUOUSLY leaked. In fact, when we checked into the room it was leaking steadily and we attempted several times to crank it shut but to no avail. Huge water waste and also very annoying to hear at night. The check in area has a very poopy-musty smell that’s a bit overpowering and the front desk attendants were very unfriendly and seemed annoyed to have to check people in/out. There was mold in the bathtub."

"The rooms are comparable to a Motel 6 and Days Inn. Black mold for days, rust, hair, stains..overall gross and needs extreme renovation. TV channels are good, bed is comfortable, in room space heater is a nice touch..The pool and hot tub is nice. outdoor games are cool. The staff is super friendly. The proximity to the manatee excursion is the highlight."

"My sister just had her wedding at The Plantation on Crystal River. The staff were all friendly, the venue was great, food was good, and drinks were strong. My only complaint was the rooms were not in great shape, however, I know that was due to the fact that they were hit with a hurricane and had a lot of flooding a few months ago. Other than that, I'd highly recommend this place as a great wedding venue. And aside from a wedding venue, if you wanted to just go for the day for dinner or drinks at the bar, its a great place for that as well."

"The grounds and location are beautiful. The staff was doing the best they could with the circumstances. I can not recommend staying at this hotel in its current condition. Reviews we read on a third party site were deceiving. I am writing this to assist anyone else not familiar with the area. Upon entering the hotel we could smell mold. Our first room was so dirty we had to ask for another. The next room was not much better. We took photos and video. Mold in the bathroom. Black stains in the bottom of the tub. Stained mattress, cracked ceilings where you could see water damage, the sliding bathroom door did not close. When I tried to close it I literally got locked in and had to have an employee get us out. The door was never fixed. Moldy smell. The doors do not feel secure and you can hear everything from other rooms and in the hallway. We stayed here for the night to go swim with the manatees but we were so uncomfortable we changed and left after the swim. We did not feel comfortable showering in that room. We drove back to Orlando and stayed there. I can not recommend this hotel."
