I had a lot of support from the CEO and from Don the Case Manager, I was able to communicate enough with the Nurses on his care. How ever I did have 24 hour private duty care for him."

"If you have to be in the hospital, Select Specialty Hospital is the place to be. It is incredibly clean and the food is delicious. "The problem with ratings for facilities like this (and any business) is the squeaky wheel syndrome. You'll always hear the bad side, and in this industry you'll never find a 4+ star facility. Each has their pros and cons. In my family's situation, we were dealing with an infection resulting from improper wound care. In fact, first my mother went to Bethesda East, and she recovered enough there to progress to--and qualify for--Select Specialty. Objectively speaking, Select is a step-down, high-level facility, definitely above standard rehab. They are well-organized, their staff is friendly and supportive, and the team understands their role in the healing process. By that, I mean this facility is not just treating, it's healing. There's a big difference. Healing involves much more than just treating a wound. It includes nurturing, encouraging, continuous care, and TLC. I was aggressively involved in my mother's care, and I can tell you after 4 weeks at Select, she was considerably better than when she left Bethesda East. Their wound care team had a variety of options, and a dedicated turn staff, which in the end, is one of the most important things you can seek. So objectively speaking, for my family's needs, they met our expectations. I would recommend this facility for several reasons, but probably above all, not everybody qualifies. If you qualify, do not turn down the opportunity. You will definitely get a higher level of service. From Select, she was discharged to Boulevard Rehab, and things quickly went south. Sadly, not only was there no simple path to get my mother back to Select (100% because of our messed up health care system, but I tried!), she passed with loved ones and hospice by her side days after she returned home from Boulevard with a severely-worsened wound. Most importantly, I have spent a lot of time with these people, as well as plenty of other medical professionals in Southeast Florida. If we could do it all over again, we would definitely choose this facility, and we would have kept my mother there as long as they would have let us until she was healed. Again, unfortunately, that's not how our healthcare system works. But in the end thumbs up!"

"Recently my grandfather was admitted to Select Specialty following a significant mental status change and horrible fall. It was a very difficult time for us, worried about her recovery and her discharge plan back up North. The staff at Select Specialty helped us so much. They made our entire experience so much better and put my mind at ease. The staff provided excellent care and the communication was wonderful. The facility is nice and clean. They were all so helpful through this difficult process, especially the case manager, Marie. She answered all of our questions thoroughly. Was extremely responsive and caring toward my Grandfather.
