Toasted - Winter Park

"I try not to write negative reviews often, as I realize we all have different palates and preferences. Today, this needs to be shared. I’ve seen the sign for Toasted in passing for months, maybe even a year. I previously Googled and was excited about the concept. Who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese?! Today: utter disappointment. I gagged. To start, the restaurant smelled stale. It’s kind of hard to explain, but when there’s low traffic or someone is cleaning with old dish water, restaurants can hold this smell that I reference as stale. This should have been my sign to try somewhere else. Instead, I stayed and asked the young man for recommendations. He referenced the menu board above, but wasn’t much help. I ordered a Gouda and chicken grilled cheese sandwich and truffle fries, and I couldn’t wait to try. When I say, I HATED this meal, that is an understatement. The chicken was too chewy to grind and digest, not to mention bland. The overall flavor profile of the sandwich was…meh. The truffle fries…Steak and Shake fries with truffle oil. Nothing was palatable. I eat out a lot and I don’t have a preference for everything I try, but most meals are still somewhat enjoyable. This meal made me gag amongst my fury of $16 wasted and a still hungry belly. In the trash this meal went."

"We ordered the kids grilled cheese, the braised brisket and the buffalo chicken sandwich. A bit pricey though, it doesn’t come with fries you have to order them on the side. The braised brisket sandwich was really good, it has bbq but not a lot, enough to give it a touch of sweetness. The fries were delicious but the kids grilled cheese was all right. it didn’t taste like real cheese and it had a weird after taste."

"The highlight was really the cheesy fries. You get a lot which I appreciated the portion size. GF and vegan options which is helpful and accommodating staff. Would definitely return again!"

"We tried Toasted tonight for dinner. We ordered the Fig & Goat cheese, the Barbacoa, the spicy Mac and the regular Mac. Everything was pretty one note and missing flavor and texture variances. The combinations didn't really work and left our tastebuds missing out on flavor."

"Today was my first time visiting this location in winter park. First the decor and ambiance were good. The seating is a little tight even with some outdoor seating, I can see this location filling up very quickly. The server "Lance" and the rest of the staff from what I can see, "looked like" they really wanted to be there. Lance did a great job setting the expectation of wait time. Today I got the "Smokehouse grilled cheese" and I must say it was better than most grilled cheese type restaurants. The sandwich looked and was presented well and they also gave plenty of well needed napkins. So with One sandwich and one cola it came out to a well spent $12."
