"My daughter attended this amazing school and completed her 1st grade there during the pandemic. We moved from South Florida to St. Johns and didn’t feel comfortable at that time taking her to the public school before the vaccines were out. I feel blessed that I met the most wonderful people that gave us all the support we needed during that difficult time. My daughter Sophia not only found her voice at River Oak but also had the opportunity to participate in innovation and entrepreneurship activities that were life changing for her. Sophia developed deep friendships in this almost “magical” environment that sees each individual as a person and their unique needs. From a learning perspective we had to supplement a bit some areas like Math and Science during summer, however she developed some amazing writing and reading skills at River Oak Academy using the “waseca” method. At the end of 1st grade her level of reading and writing was equivalent to 4th grade. Thanks to Mrs. Mary, Vincent, Vanessa and all that makes River Oak Academy such an amazing place for children. This is one of the “Best kept secrets” in Saint Johns, FL."

"I am sharing this review from a student perspective and as a member of this school for 4 years, I can’t tell you how much this school has grown in so many good ways. From day 1 it was a small community and it was not the community we have now, it was small but not bad at all but then we moved buildings to the most spectacular building and property. We saw many different buildings in places hours away, and then we found 3355 our current building. We used to drive by the building when it was a house and we drove by it for years without exactly noticing it, and then we looked inside and it was a short yes! To be shorter, it is now a very happy, stable, thriving, and in my opinion the best school ever where we don’t have teachers, we have guides and that’s when the kids can lead and learn themselves in a fun way with a lot of independence and the guides are kind and still are like no other, in a good way."

"My studio, Nailed It DIY, was allowed the privilege of working with River Oaks Academy on a project with their learners. I was absolutely blown away by their facility. The environment that they have created for the kids is not only beautiful, but like a childhood dream. They are committed to fostering growth in their kids by allowing them to learn through experiences which in turn empowers them to do things themselves. I was incredibly amazed with the confidence the kids had picking up our power tools and just running with their project ideas. I could tell that their willingness and confidence is a direct reflection of the environment that River Oak Academy has provided. The Guides were all really friendly, patient, and encouraging as well."
