"I've had two children in the elementary school for three years. I honestly don't relate AT ALL to stories in other low ratings here. In three years I have NEVER had problems with teacher communication or over-eager discipline. The school has high but reasonable standards for behavior and rigorous academics. It seems like some parents get very upset when the behavior standards are ENFORCED, but that's actually one thing I LOVE about this school-- even if the enforcement is happening on my own kids. I WANT them to learn to be respectful of their learning environment by not distracting others and by paying attention to their teachers. My children's teachers have all been very responsive for each of the years we have attended and are very PROactive in communicating with me. They always make time for conferences. I'm even encouraged to come on-site and eat lunch with my kids and to volunteer on site. As for curriculum, my kids are scoring above average on state exams and iReady assessments. I feel there probably should be more homework, but that's my personal preference. The curriculum seems harder than any traditional local elementary school. Most public schools in Duval give no info on any curriculum materials they use. Just try to find that info. It's incredible hard to find, and what's shown in the DCPS websites is often out of date or inaccurate-- if there is any info at all. In 4th grade, my child had to write essays on complex topics of philosophy and ethics. He memorized Chaucer. They use Singapore math which is also used in Bolles and several other local private schools. I have a neurodivergent child there who, since kindergarten, has had extremely patient and encouraging teachers. Nothing is perfect, but I'm very pleased with the school so far-- especially when compared to my experience of our neighborhood public school. I especially like the diversity I see in the student body AND the teaching staff at JXC, which is another BIG difference between this school and my mostly white, mostly upper middle class neighborhood public school with mostly white, female teachers. Class sizes are small with NO co-teaching situations-- unlike my local public school. ESE services don't take MONTHS to get, unlike in my local public school. I happily recommend JXC."
"Amazing school with incredible curriculum and culture. They focus on a love of learning and developing the whole child in both character and education. The new leadership team is fantastic and is taking the school in the right direction. The teachers motivate scholars to learn and give them the courage to ask questions to make them life long learners beyond their years in school. We are beyond grateful for this school!"
"Wonderful school with an incredible leadership team-really positive, professional staff that strive for excellence and care about the students. The teachers are dedicated, caring and enthusiastic-my kids really look forward to coming to school! The classical curriculum is outstanding-we are so fortunate to have access to a classical education here in Jacksonville. Our family loves how our children are engaged and we truly value the school’s emphasis on lifelong learning and critical thinking. We are so grateful for this school!"
"If you are thinking about sending your kids to this sorry excuse for a school, DON’T! if I could give them zero stars I would. My child has been going here since it first opened. From kindergarten until second grade. Thank God 2023 was her last year there. The teachers don’t communicate with you about grades and if they do it is not in a way for you to help your child. The curriculum is so sorry. If you have children that go here I would advise you to pull them out asap. If you have been recommended to send your child here, I promise they would be better off in public school. I’m convinced the good comments are people that are affiliated with the school. Listen to the bad comments, we are not complaining for no reason and I would hate for more parents to learn the hard way."
"We have seen leadership turn this school into quality schooling, community, and place for our children to excel. Parents are involved, the students are happy, and the teachers care. My 7th grader has excelled on his math scores and my second graders love going to school. I have two more kids coming in the fall and feel confident in sending them to Jax Classical. Not only a good education but also instilling important virtues to be a kind, hard working individual."
