"I came in on April 10th for my appointment. The sign at the front of the building talks about transparency and upfront pricing. I came in with 3 documents and told the tax preparer I was assigned, what I needed, which was to do my mother's final tax returns. The documents were her W2, her tax documents from the Social Security Administration, and the mortgage statement from the bank stating the interest paid on the mortgage. The guy took an hour to run a simulated tax return, lookup how to do this tax return, and ask his coworker a question regarding this. AFTER ALL OF THAT he tells me it will be about $200 to do the actual federal return and states it might be additional to do the state taxes. When he asks me if I want to proceed, or try them on my own (which I chose the latter), his coworker in the cubicle next to him stands up comes around and tells him not to forget to charge me for the hour of his time he spent assisting me. I was livid. If he had bothered to tell me the price upfront instead of waiting until the end of the hour...neither of us would have wasted an hour with the other. How hard is it and how long would/should it take for a tax preparer, who has supposedly been doing taxes with H&R Block for 9 years according to the screen in his office, to read 3 pieces of paper, assess what forms would be needed, and quote me the price upfront. They had the nerve to bill me $50 for their time....what about my time...that you completely wasted, with not a damn thing accomplished. I will never be back...ever."

"I've stuck with Block for over 20 years because I found it easy to establish a good working relationship with the Tax Preparers. Keeping good receipts and organized records saves me and the Agent time and eliminates guess work. I don't like the way Block penalizes me for having numerous accounts. (This method of numerous accounts helps me to find the best deal for my savings, and we all know how pitiful the rates are.) Ms. Margaret Lunsford has been excellent to work with, as was Mr. Jim Connely before her."
