"Excellent I love it"
"Pearl Academy Institute of Math & Science is a phenomenal 5 acre natural habitat environment place to put your children with emphasis on agriculture, all schools should be modeled after Pearl Academy the way Mama Virgie the principal and owner has it set up. This should be implemented world wide having children in natural settings and not prison settings like public schools. My children this year are in 11 th and 12th grade they came here last year and my son did not love math until he came to Pearl Academy . Pearl is a village setting and concept and the teachers know the students as individuals and they are developed as individuals , whatever lacks at Pearl Academy Mama Virgie addresses at the parent meetings to get the whole school involved . This principal goes out of her way to meet with parents and students on Sunday's, she loves what she does and is great at it so are all the teachers. They teach the children true American and African history and get them to think out the box and develop their own genius as individuals. My daughter wants to be a vet and Mama Virgie used her enormous resources in the community and started immediately calling and working with her to obtain that scheduling college tours for the school. I highly recommend Pearl Academy but I also encourage individuals and large businesses to donate large amounts to Pearl Academy you can do this by going on their website. Education is important especially when it is grounded in nature we need to only uplift schools and teachers like Pearl Academy . Parent Azalea Blalock"
"My experience @Pearl Academy started off good, but didnt end tht way. @ first, it appears to be a loving family environment, supportive & patient w/ the childs educational development by filling in gaps of whts missing from their education-while pushing them to the next level. In certain areas of math my son ws exceeding, a lot of attention was on math which I ws excited about. Unfortunately, the gaps werent being filled w/in certain areas, so he ws failing, bringing his overall math score to a failing grade. My son can read, yet comprehension wsnt fully developed to tht of a 3rd grader, ths caused problems in other subjects. Whn I mentioned the gaps, it ws always vague & “we’re about to do ths & tht to improve”, but very little action. So, no improvements. I wanted to believe the owner b/c I wanted my child there, thinking its the best environment. Pearls’ true colors didnt take long to show. To start, my son hd 4 teachers by the end of December. The school ws unorganized, uncommunicative & unsafe. The 1st teacher my son hd ws Mama Nzinga. She ws probably 1 of the best teachers they hd! So whn she emailed the parents in her class letting them knw she ws resigning after only 12 wks, some of her students left too. We were shocked tht she ws leaving, but more so tht Ms. Virgie NEVER addressed the situation-no word, no email, absolutely nothing. I asked wht she would do about another teacher. I shouldnt have to ask the owner for clarity. As the owner, parents should’ve been notified immediately after Mama Nzinga left. It ws a downward spiral after tht. The last teacher ws hired in February, ultimately making 5 teachers in 1 school yr. The new teacher ws unorganized & uncommunicative too. Between the bullying & older children (teens) being around children unsupervised, they heard & ws exposed to all kinds of things tht they shouldnt. My 8 y/o came home asking about language he heard. I ws like OMG wht is going on there? The owner, ws informed of the problem & the children hd supervision for 1 wk during lunch, & thn back to none. I didnt find out there ws no supervision until another situation. Whn addressed, she made it seem as if it ws 1 time. Speaking to my child, I find out its happening ALL the time. Pearl doesnt have enough staff for ongoing supervision. Virgie has proven tht she & the school is unorganized, uncommunicative & she continues to lie. Keep in mind, these are the big incidents, there were too many little situations to put into 1 review. 3 wks prior to withdrawing my son, he needed to use the bathroom. Being a child, he played until the last minute. He made it in time, but ws unzipping & urine squirted out & not all of it made it in the toilet. Urine ws on him, the edge of the toilet & some on the floor, but majority in the toilet. W/ young boys, ths happens @ times. Virgie said my son did it on purpose & little boys do things like tht b/c they are DEVIOUS! I ws so shocked I couldnt respond. I ws astonished tht ths lady, who runs a school of mostly AA boys hd ths kind of mindset about them. I really tried to make it to the end of the school yr. My 8 y/o ws attacked by 3 teens while in class, w/ the TEACHER who’s back ws turned. She said tht she would expel the teens b/c they’d been causing trouble. By Monday, my son called me hysterical saying tht 1 of the teens ws still @ school. Furious, b/c I ws lied to again. Whn I talked to Ms. Virgie, she stated tht she wsnt able to get in touch w/ the mother. I questioned ths. Her response ws “your son needs to stop worrying about other people”! It took everything in me not to be disrespectful. Highly disappointed in her attitude, & shocked @ how nonchalant she ws, I withdrew my child. Do your research about ths school, dnt just take her word. Ask around the community b4 U enroll your child. If U dnt knw any1 personally, ask them if they knw someone. Reach out to the past teachers & see why they left. Ask the right questions & if U choose to enroll your child, hold her accountable for wht she says, & stay on her about it."
"For my family the straw that broke the camels back was when the new science teacher, for the upper grades, received numerous complaints. Some of the students (my child included) reported that he refused to allow the children to take bathroom breaks (despite having a bathroom in the same room as the classroom). He would occasionally penalize them by taking 15 minutes of the entire classes lunch break should they need to use the restroom during class time. Not only was he very stern and aggressive, this teacher was reported to have made a comment to a female student (who suggested she was hungry), that she could stand to lose some weight. At one point, he humiliated my son by speaking to him in a disrespectful manner. While the teacher was talking, my son was looking down in his desk, and this was justification for being called an idiot and made to leave out the class. My son has never had behavior issues and maintained the highest average in this class, so it was very confusing to understand that looking inside ones desk would result in being kicked out of class and further demeaned. My wife and I requested a meeting and the owner, Virgie S., nonchalantly dismissed the request. We had never met this teacher at the “family” meetings/conferences or any school event. So, after about 4 or 5 days of what appeared to be her stalling, I rearranged my day to wait for the teacher at the school. Ultimately, the teacher admitted that he was wrong and was made to apologize to my son. Not only was this situation appalling but also unprofessional. There was also a parent that disrespected a teacher in front of some students and another staff because the grades she put on his report card reflected where he was actually at, and not where he was portrayed to have been, prior to her teaching there. The owner had meetings for the dad being upset about his sons grades but there was not too much concern about how the father disrespected the teacher. We ultimately pulled our children from this “school”. Since doing so, life is much better. We realized that our children, who are normally above average in pretty much every area, have shown some weaknesses in the areas they hadn’t had weaknesses before. So, the quality education we thought we were paying for, was actually not quality. Any parent sending their child to this school should be aware that allowing their child to attend this school suffers the reality that their child may essentially be further behind should they leave the school, and attends one that has real academic accountability.
