Island Tropics Restaurant

"Island Tropics has been my go-to Jamaican restaurant for at least the last 6 years. Their food is consistent, always fresh, and plentiful. The container can barely close, and I'm definitely not complaining about that. I feel like they give your money's worth. There was a recent price increase, but the price of everything in the world is rising, so I understand they probably had no choice. Nonetheless, the food is always on point. I've had a variety of items, and everything is solid. Even the smoothies are so good. Recently, I had a hankering for oxtail, rice and peas, and cabbage so I stopped by, and this time, I managed to take a pic. It's as delicious as it appears. If you're looking quality authentic Jamaican cuisine, give them a try. As a lover of Reggae and Dancehall music, I always enjoy the Jamaican tunes that they play as well. It's always a vibe."

"This was absolutely a disappointment. This has to be the worst Caribbean food I’ve ever had . As someone who grew up eating authentic oxtail and rice n peas this made me upset. ALL the meat was tough . No tenderness at all . The rice was under cooked and the Mac n cheese speaks for itself ."

"Take out order for lunch. Wrong order received. Order brown chicken and was given curry chicken. The curry chicken was dry and bland in taste. Unfortunate because I’ve heard great things about this restaurant."

"Outstanding Jamaican food. The best i've had in JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA. VERY CLEAN, friendly, respectful environment. The food is cooked just right. The way the food is prepared and served will take you to the island of jamaica itself. Yeh Mon. What are you waiting for? Not too expensive...I was surprised at the pricing of the menu. "A couple years ago, this spot was light year's ahead of its competition in food quality, quantity, taste & price. At that time the food was fresh & robust, colorful & bursting with authentic flavor. Unfortunately today, the food was bland, overcooked to the point both the veggies & the meat was all the same color... Green peppers, onions, carrots etc were all the same shade of brown & very limp. The cabbage was watery, limp & lacking color & integrity, as well. The rice & peas tasted similar to 'Knorr/Lipton PastaSides', & the mac & cheese was dry & not well mixed... A thick hardened layer of cheese on top & only unseasoned noodles underneath. The only redeeming part of the meal were the well seasoned stew beef chunks which still melts in your mouth like I remembered. 2 stars instead of only 1 because I'm rooting for this place to succeed. This was my favorite Caribbean spot. I'm hoping they were just having a really off day, but regardless, after a 30 minute drive & $24 spent for the one plate, I still expect the food to be edible & cooked on the same day it's purchased, at least."
