"Looking great now, been up there multiple times and wonderful hike at least to Panther Creek Falls."
"Great unmarked wilderness! Bring your compass and a trail map can be obtained at any ranger station along the gravel road. We don't do trail blazes because they aren't natural."
"Parking area is great. Views, River, and streams are great. Trails, however, are unmarked and in appalling condition. *Many YEARS of blowdowns have not been cleared. We hiked kind of a lollipop loop, Three Forks trailhead to Rough Ridge trail, to Jacks River trail, to Hickory Ridge trail, to East Cowpen trail, and back to the Three Forks Trailhead. *Half a mile after leaving the parking lot, the trails become unmarked. Not a single blaze on a 20 mile hike. Not ONE! Nada. Zip. Maybe 5 wooden trail signs. Bring compass, GPS, and a map. *Thousands of blowdowns. Not just a trunk to climb over, but forests of impassable fallen branches rising 10 to 20 feet high. Be prepared for 50 yard bypasses through thick briar thickets. *In many places, trails are nearly indiscernible from simply bushwhacking. Briar thickets and pine saplings cover the trail from both sides. Bring Neosporin. *The transition from Jacks River to Hickory Ridge trails is particularly poor. You will have forded the Jacks for the second time and begin looking for Hickory Ridge, but the trail disappears. No blazes or signs, so you can't even tell where it was supposed to be. After hiking several 'dead-ends' and an arduous trek 200 or 300 yards down river through tangles and mudflats, we finally located another unmarked trail leading uphill. Turned out to be Hickory Ridge (which was our intended goal). 90 minute delay. *Except for the ridges, the trails are generally straight up and straight down. Generally you are hiking in a wash. Tolerable when dry, pretty miserable when flash floods are in the area. *Anything good to say? Well, it's isolated and you won't run into many hikers. Some beautiful views of vistas, valleys, and mountain streams. Good camping sites with plenty of firewood. Plentiful water. Fording the Jacks is challenging - a memory maker even if you don't fall. And it really is a wilderness in the highest mountains in Georgia. Dangerous."
"This trail head is really nice as it has several trails of varying lengths that intersect. I would recommend downloading the AllTrails app to make sure you are on the trail you want to be on. That app is great for anyone hiking. We will back here to do some of the other trails. Beautiful views and nice water views on some of the trails."
"Isolated with very few cars passing by, started snowing when we started on the trail be warned if you’re doing the Cohutta wilderness loop you while need to cross water on foot"
