Reviews of Great Expressions Dental Centers - Briarcliff

"Everyone has always been attentive and very pleasant. I appreciate Mary for always listening to my needs when it comes to finances. Thank you Mary and the whole staff!!!"
"2/24 Update: Despite replying to this review indicating they will address my complaint, I have yet to speak to anyone about this, and it has not been made right over 2 months later. TLDR: Almost every staff member (Dr. Canisha Howard Scott) at this site are rude, unprofessional, and cruel. They caused me unnecessary pain, bullied me, and made careless mistakes. If you want kind, gentle, understanding dentists and staff, have any anxiety around dental procedures, or want to get customer service over the phone or website, do not come here. This location was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional, and I'm disappointed and appalled by the service I received over 3 visits. I am educated and an active participant in my dental healthcare, meaning I ask questions about the process because I have anxiety around dental procedures and like to be informed; apparently they are not used to patients like me. The staff at this location were apparently challenged and intimidated by this and began to treat me very poorly at my next 2 visits. When asking about the procedure for getting my crown, specifically about how much it would hurt and if there was anything I could be given for the pain and my anxiety, the dentist, Dr. Howard Scott, and assistant were incredibly rude and callous, questioning why I felt I needed anything, as if it was ridiculous to be anxious and in pain at the dentist. Then, when Dr. Howard Scott numbed my mouth and I still felt a lot of pain, I jumped. She was so annoyed by this and said I shouldn't feel anything by now and that she needs to refer me out to someone who can deal with my jumpiness. She then pressed down HARD on my tooth and asked if I could feel it; I felt everything and the pain was 8/10 and excruciating. Why a dentist would intentionally cause their patient pain is beyond me, but it's incredibly unprofessional and cruel. Just because you expect patients to be completely numb after a certain dose of numbing doesn't mean they will be, as I was not; this should be common knowledge and taught in dental school. No dentist should be bothered by this and they definitely shouldn't take it out on their patients. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of my issues with this location. After that first appointment, the staff began to treat me like a “difficult” patient, speaking to me in harsh, short, rude tones and not providing kind, caring, and professional service. The assistant during my second appointment was clearly frustrated with my questions about numbing, scheduling follow-up appointments, etc. and at one point very rudely asked how old I was in a condescending way; when I told her my age (near 30), she was shocked and said “You seem very mature,” as if she was annoyed someone who looks as young as me would be so proactive and involved in her care. Even if I really was as young as I look, any patient seeking care and paying for their service should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of how much younger they look than the staff. It's ageist and it's ridiculous. Additionally, the office “lost” my original impressions for my crown and never got my official crown in, causing me to have to return for yet another terrible visit due to their careless and unprofessional mistake. Then, when trying to leave my last visit, the administrative assistant, Mary, rudely and unprofessionally tried to bully me into paying in full even though it is not required. She was rude about my options for payment and would not give me a clear answer about if payment was due in full at the end of the appointment (it was not; they can always bill you later.). I finally told her I or a family member would call back later that day to pay after I made some arrangements. This woman called me back that same afternoon complaining that I said someone would call and no one had called yet. Again, she was very rude and unprofessional about it. Needless to say, I did not pay over the phone as she rudely demanded, immediately blocked them, and paid later after I was billed, as is the standard billing process."
"Easy parking. Professional and friendly staff throughout. The hygienist was pleasant and very detailed in his work. The dentist made me feel comfortable to be in a dentist office! It was a great visit."
"Today I had to have a cavity filled, and as it was my first time, I was extremely anxious. The staff was so calm and patient with me! Mary, the dental assistant, was so sweet and explained everything to me and held my hand. The doctor was extremley kind and understanding. She was also very quick! Thank you guys for being so kind and gentle with me today! I truly appreciate you :)"
