"If you have stumbled upon this review and are seriously considering a pool…. STOP and go no further. I’ll save you the time, energy, effort with this review. 1 - Clay is a hard working true American who cares about his customers. From the start, Clay is going to feel like family. He’s going to show up stare at your terrible backyard and tell you it’s all going to be alright. He will encourage you to shop around and listen to your ideas (which will also probably be terrible) and then he will be 100% honest about what can be done, what cant be done, and what is just a massive waste of your money. As you get to know him and his crew you will be excited for the pool to be completed, but sad that you wont see them on a consistent basis anymore 2 - Scope You guys are going to do exactly like us and talk to a couple different companies. You’ll get lower quotes, higher quotes but the same thing will apply… It’s typically for 75% of the actual project. You have to think about landscaping, fences, gas lines, irrigation, lighting. We didnt get a single company who either A) included this in the budget because they were trying to compete on price or B) had thought this far ahead 3 - They don’t cut corners Clay’s crew has been with him for years and they think of the things you will not. Things like where rain is going to flow, functional space, how wind is going to affect your water features, how light might shine into your home at night, how hard it will be to access areas after a pool is built and why you might want to put anti-erosion materials there. Further, Clay personally comes out and inspects the work as it progresses, and even if it eats into his bottom line he will have the work redone. For example, we had one sheer descent that was roughly 3 inches off, I hardly noticed it and it had already been set with concrete and stone, but he had his crew move it to be equidistant from the others. 4 - Communication A lot of companies are fully booked and are going to just treat you like a number and may not contact you for months on end. Mind you, Davis Outdoor Construction is also FULLY booked (because they are the best) but they pride themselves in customer satisfaction. Clay will literally be driving to another job site checking in with you and letting you know what to expect or why something may be delayed. The man is like the Lincoln Lawyer working out of his F-250 5 - Easy to work with Clay wants you to have your dream backyard. I cant tell you how many times my wife and I added a retaining wall, extended the amount of pavers we wanted, what kind of palm trees we were going to plant, mulch vs river rock, or where the fire pit would be…this list goes on and on and Clay LISTENED to what we wanted and told us exactly how much it was going to cost and how much time it would add. I think I heard him say “You do realize thats going to be X” or “You’re killing me man” 40+ times but he always heard us out and gave us exactly what we wanted. 6 - Craftsmanship I have researched and seen a lot of pools over the past few years and I can tell you that Clay’s pools are built to be beautiful AND functional. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of his pools featured in a Hollywood movie one day. You know one of those where it’s the uber rich parents whose kids are the envy of the entire town because they always throw the best parties and events. Hell it could be your’s if you decide to go with him. This doesn’t stop at the pool either, they will go to great lengths to ensure every square inch of your backyard is emaculate. All in all, Clay makes the pool building process enjoyable. He knows how to keep you grounded by setting realistic expectations but still blows your mind at the end of the project. Nowadays it’s hard to come by genuine people, much less contractors, and we were blessed to have him and his crew take on our project. To this day him and I still keep in touch and I joke with him that the only reason we would ever sell our house is just so we could start another pool build to force him to come by all the time again."
