"This is a very strenuous hike. Perfect for camping in the summer/fall time. The hike is no joke though; the few hundred feet drop in elevation can cause headaches. You will be stopping a lot if you did the full thing. There are a lot of slopes and hills. Obviously, waterfalls and longer crossing rivers towards the bottom. It can be difficult to get through the water without getting your whole foot drenched. I've heard bears are in the area too although we didn't see any."
"This wonderful trail full of adventure is The Narrows of Southern Appalachia. Your shoes will get wet on this 3 mile trail leading you to a beautiful 50' waterfall. Bring a hiking stick(s). I counted 12 stream crossings, 27 blowdowns taller than a man's knee, and 4 camp spots during our September 2021 excursion following a long, light rain. The trip total is 6 miles / 24 crossings / 54 blowdowns. Take heart: a few of the streams and trees were challenging, but most can do it. If you are camping, the first campsite is a 5-10 minute hike upstream on the right where Holly Creek joins Emery Creek. There are 4 total camping spots along the 3 mile trail. The parking lot holds 10 cars."
"Beautiful place with a raging river. Not a beginner hike - first river crossing was a little intense. You will be wet and cross many creeks but was amazing. Great hike when it’s a little warmer. If u bring a dog make sure they are good swimmers and u have leash to help them cross."
"Hike is 8.4 miles now, not sure what happened with the professional reviews but the park sign says 4.2 one way. That being said it is worth it, it is fairly strenuous, I would not recommend unless you're used to hiking, make sure you bring plenty of water and shoes that can handle water, extra pair of socks wouldn't hurt, I ended up stepping in water that went over my boot once. Reviews say dog friendly and it is in the sense it didn't have stairs, but there are quite a few downed trees some as wide as 3.5 to get over. If your dog can handle it it's great. Mine did OK and had a blast, just a consideration. The hike back out is 4 miles of steep uphill action so make sure you have the energy and water, don't forget about the dogs needs for food, puppy cramps can ruin a hike"
