Rice Field Shelter/Appalachian Trail

"What an amazing spot for a shelter! It faces west into West Virginia making a gorgeous spot to spend the night and watch the sunset. Unfortunately, I was not able to stay the night because I was moving onto the next shelter (Pine Branch), but I did use the privy and it was fairly new. As for water, I didn't see any, but it may have been near and is why I give it four stars. I will say this for water, the mileage leading up to it northbound I didn't see any until a few miles past Rice Fields. Super cool shelter if you get to stay here. Happy Trails!"

"OK shelter...great view. Was there in fall and could see sunset from overlook. Also after dark good to hangout on the overlook to watch the lights from town below and relax from the days hike. Then just steps away from shelter when it's time to turn in. No bear box or established place to hang food. Privy was ok...sign to just throw some leaves in...not sure about that? Good place for a fire and to spend the night"
