"I loved staying at John and Angela's farm. We stayed in the barn loft. I'll be honest I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to sleep. I've slept in old barns from the 1800s and 1900s before and the experience was quite spooky! That was not the case here! It was very peaceful and quiet. I loved watching the sunset and the stars were beautiful at night. Watching the little brown bats fly above was such a lovely sight. The population here hasn't been effected as badly as the rest of the country by white nose fungus. There were few mosquitoes. The ducks and chickens sounds at night were comforting and I quickly adjusted to waking early with the natural alarm clock. Thanks to the little rooster! The breakfast was phenomenal and worth every penny. I enjoyed talking about the history of the farm and getting to know our hosts. The property had a few trails to walk on that were nice. Located just 15 minutes from a grocery store and about 10 minutes from Clendenin. Near by is the Elk River for fishing and Elk River Trail for a leisurely bike ride or hike. 30 minutes from Charleston. We were able to drive to several hiking trails and the New River Gorge Bridge in about an hour. I would recommend staying here. It's worth the experience and hospitality!"
"I stayed in the barn loft at The Country Road House. When I booked, I was looking for a unique place to stay while I drove by the area. This was the perfect spot. The barn loft was clean and spacious, Angela was super friendly, and the bed was very comfortable. To my surprise, the outhouse had no odor and was very well kept, while keeping it rustic and historic. The farm was really lovey. I loved visiting the goats on the hill and enjoyed the peace and quiet after the sun went down. I will most definitely be returning. Tip for Travelers: If you like sleeping in a chilly space, the barn loft may not be for you. I would book one of the other two spaces on the farm. The loft is a little warm. (Think Glamping) Or book it in the cooler months for a really unique experience."
"We didn't stay at the bed and breakfast house. We just came for strawberry picking, but we had a wonderful time! It was fun and relaxing, and the owners were so kind and pleasant. We picked a lot of ripe, delicious berries and played in the creek."
"We stayed in the Cellar House. It was absolutely perfect! Nice and rustic, but in a very comfortable way. The bed is firm, but there were many comfy pillows. There is a fridge and large country table for enjoying the wonderful breakfast that will be delivered to your room in the morning. After breakfast, stroll down towards the strawberry patch to pick some fresh berries. Make sure to mingle with the chickens and the ducks, and say hello to the adorable, talkative goat that lives up on the hill. Tip: Enjoy a nice sit-down bath in the tub. Prop open the window in the bathroom with the stick that's provided. Have a glass of wine and enjoy the country breeze flowing in while you lounge in the warm tub. We really liked this place! Thanks Angela and John! Perfect blend of rustic country and delightful comfort on a nice little homestead. Update after reading review of the person that stayed in the Cellar House the night before us and mentioned a septic odor and concerns about a snake... We did not have any visits from any type of creature in the room (that we were aware of!). There was no mention of a snake, but anyone who would not expect that they coexist on the property is not being realistic. There was no foul odor on our stay. None. The grass smelled dewy and fresh. The strawberries smelled juicy in my hands. The coffee and bacon smelled like Mom made breakfast. Again, we really enjoyed this accommodation and would happily stay again and longer."
"5 star all the way. Wonderful people our stay was magnificent. Breakfast was amazing and if you like history they can fill you in. I love it so it was great. If you remember it is an old country house and do not expect it to be brand new you will love it. Your stay is in history it's self. Quiet clean and private. Angela and everyone we met are worth the stay even if it was in a hay loft. We will see you all next trip."
