"1st Place Cafe is a fast casual restaurant located in Nitro, WV that understands the concept of doing a few things excellent instead of many things mediocre. Everything on the limited menu seems to be a star especially the chicken and fries. Their tag should be good things come to those who wait or patience is a virtue. The menu suggests call ahead ordering. I was politely told when I arrived to a fairly full dining room on a Thursday evening that my food would take at least an hour. I had my phone and headphones to entertain me so I ordered the Nashville Blue with fries and a Fat Tire beer. I added some homemade spicy mayo for my fries. The portions are huge and dare I say family style. I highly recommend splitting a sandwich and fries. Each sandwich has two breaded chicken breasts, topped with bib lettuce, tomato, red onion, and homemade pickles. It is sauced with a perfectly spiced Nashville butter sauce and a homemade blue cheese dressing. This sandwich will make your hands a mess but it is worth it. The fries are a natural cut shoestring that are seasoned with salt and pepper. You are served a literal mountain of fries. Fresh, hot, and delicious. This sandwich is actually inexpensive at $13.99. It would cost $24.99 in any other city. I did feel the beer was pricey at $9.95. Next time I’ll order tea. The menu includes a newer chicken sandwich called the sweet and savory which adds bacon, cheese, pickled red onions, and a homemade honey mustard sauce. There are off menu specials which today included the a Rueben and a Rachel. After the dinner rush the owner came into the dinning room and talked to each table. Being the last table served we had a nice extended conversation. Why did I rate the service as a five for a fast casual restaurant with an hour wait? Because they were friendly, attentive, and honest about the kitchen time. You should check this place out."
"Both ladies working June 10th were welcoming and helpful with information about the food. Everything came out accurate and aplenty. We loved the taste of our chicken sandwiches, fries and the sauces. This was a wonderful value for the amount of food you receive, definitely enough fries to share. I had the feeling it may have been an owner acting as chef. She did a fantastic job and both ladies treated us wonderfully. The dining area was comfortable and included television. The bathrooms were clean and decorated much nicer than you may expect in an eatery. This place should be a great success. I strongly recommend!"
"The service was great and so was the food. It was hard to decide on what we wanted so my friend and I each got different things and split them. Drinks were in bottles and they would bring you a cup with ice and straw of wanted. The original chicken sandwich and the special Sweet and Savory sandwich were what we ordered. The sweet and savory sandwich had flavors that were on point and it was my favorite. They were messy eating but great! A few bites in I figured out why they give you a wet toilette pack and plenty of napkins! (They were appreciated) Don't go here on a first date with someone haha. The fries were fresh and very tasty; shoe string type fry... They were tossed in some type of with herbs. I also got a side of pickles and they were great! The sauces they make are wonderful (garlic aioli, spicy mayo, ranch, spicy mustard) and I'll get sides next time for the fries. 10/10 for portions and service! We talked to 3 employees (maybe a couple were owners) and they were very sweet and appreciative. We will be back and in trying their burger next time!"
"If you're looking for a cozy, delicious spot to grab a meal, look no further than First Place Cafe. My girlfriend Cassie and I had an incredible experience there today, and we can't recommend it highly enough. First off, the atmosphere is fantastic - it's cozy, welcoming, and has a really lovely vibe. But let's get to the important stuff - the food. Cassie had the Sweet and Savory chicken sandwich with seasoned fries, and it was absolutely amazing. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, and the seasoning was just right. The sandwich was topped with some incredible sweet and savory toppings that really made it sing. I went for the Bacon Cheese burger with seasoned fries, and I was blown away. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the bacon and cheese took it to the next level. And those fries? Out of this world. Overall, we both agreed that the chicken sandwich was the star of the show - it was easily the best we've had in West Virginia. But everything else was also top notch, from the friendly service to the cozy atmosphere. We'll definitely be back, and we highly recommend First Place Cafe to anyone looking for a great meal. Five stars, no question!"
"We've heard a lot of great reviews about 1st Place Cafe and since we were in the area around dinner last night, we decided to give it a try. We called in a pickup order and they were ready right on time, checkout was quick and easy. One of the most consistent things we've heard about 1st Place Cafe is that the portion sizes are very large. Knowing that, we were somewhat prepared for a big sandwich and a good bit of fries. We were still blown away by how enormous the portions were, they're absolutely gigantic. The Nashville Blue chicken sandwiches we got took up most of a full size plate, and even with a very large pile of fries on our plates, we still had a ton of fries left over. So yes, the portions here are huge. The food itself was great. I'm usually not a huge fan of very skinny fries but these are perfectly crunchy and well seasoned, making them very enjoyable. The Nashville Blue chicken sandwich was excellent, the spice level was pretty much perfect to give a pleasant heat but not enough to make it painful, and the blue cheese sauce provided a good counter to the heat. The breading was crispy and perfectly fried. The buns were soft but still held up well to the weight of the sandwich. Overall, just a very well made meal. Although the menu prices may seem a little high, when you see the amount you're getting, they're completely fair. I really can't overstate enough how huge these portions are. We definitely got our money's worth and still have leftovers. Definitely give 1st Place Cafe a try, the food is great, and the prices are very fair for the portions you get."
