"I seriously can’t recommend Burgess Dental enough. I suffer from extreme anxiety, and before becoming a patient there I had a lot of fear about the dentist stemming from childhood experiences where my pain was ignored. The folks at Burgess are extremely understanding and accommodating — everyone from the front desk to the dentists. Maddie, in particular, is a wonderful dentist. She really listens to me to make sure that I’m fully numb before starting her work, and she encourages me to stop her if I feel *anything.* I became a patient there at 25, after having not gone to the dentist since childhood. Even though I know my teeth weren’t in great shape, Maddie and the other staffers didn’t make me feel bad about it — they encouraged me and told me that they can definitely help get my mouth back on track. There was none of the doom and gloom that I had expected. No joke, I genuinely look forward to going to Burgess, whether just for a teeth cleaning or even a filling. Great music, good vibes, kind staff. Seriously, go to Burgess Dental."
"TL;DR: As an autistic person with sensory needs I highly recommend this place. Kind staff and very professional. Especially since I thought I'd try somewhere else recently (the Patrick Street Family Medical Dental place), and they were painful and awful. Longer version: I had never seen a dentist in my adult life when I first went to Burgess. I was 41 years old. I never had the insurance before now. In 2020 I finally got insurance that covered dental and Burgess was in my network. I asked to come down there before my visit to get to know him, his staff, and what to expect since I have sensory issues as an autistic person with PTSD and had not been to a dentist since I still had baby teeth. They all were very accommodating to me and kind. Treated me like a human being, just with different needs. I can't recall the dental hygienist's name but she was so gentle and kind to me. Despite having major plaque buildup of about 30 some years I felt minimal pain. She went slowly and gently, and if I bled a bunch I didn't notice because she knew to suction properly to avoid that. The only reason I stopped going to Burgess was due to the pandemic. It hit right after my 2nd visit and everything shut down completely for a bit. I limited going out for top priorities only. Well, 2 years later I can't put teeth cleaning off anymore and tried calling Burgess's office a few timed and never got through. Left a message once at one point and no call back. So I gave up and got an appt at the Family Medical Dental Clinic at Patrick Street. Whatever their exact name is. I literally had to force the hygienist to stop and ask for the dentist to finish. I almost walked out and kind of wished I had now. All I could respond to and think of was saying, "But at Burgess Dental they had so much more plaque to deal with than now and they didn't hurt me like this!" There was pain that couldn't be avoided in Burgess's office, but I felt there was a brutality in how the hygienist at Patrick Street approached cleaning my teeth. I didn't feel like she treated me like an actual human being. I left feeling like my teeth were not fully cleaned like I got back in 2020 (with Burgess Dental), yet now have tons of pain. I regret not trying to call more often to Burgess's office to get back in here. If I can avoid it, next teeth cleaning I hope to get back in here at Burgess again. I don't want to go anywhere else now if I can help it!"
"I absolutely LOVE Dr. Burgess & Dr. Maddi. I have been going them for my dental needs since I was in middle school! They are the most caring and compassionate doctors and staff EVER! They make you feel as your one of their own family members! If you want GREAT dental work done this is the dental office for you! My 3 year old even comes in for her check ups and cleanings. They do a fabulous job with her as well! They do great with all ages! If you have fear of "white coat" they are so caring to help you relax and you can even listen to your earbuds or whatever to make you feel at ease! This is the only dentist office that has ever made me feel at ease. When my family moves out of town in a few months, we are NOT changing doctors we will make the trips to come back in for our appointments!"
"I have nothing but rave reviews for Burgess Dental! Dr. Burgess's work is beautiful (replaced an old crown and placed a bridge) and Debbie is the best hygienist that has ever cleaned my teeth! All of this, in a very relaxing atmosphere."
"I was interning in Charleston when I got a bad toothache. My own dentist was 500 miles away and I wasn't sure if any dentists would take patients they hadn't been working with within a day. Dr. Burgess could get me in the next morning and treated me like royalty. I worked with them the rest of the summer with a needed root canal and even had a cleaning done. Wonderful office!"
