Reviews
"Campus Martius Museum has displays about the first settlement in the Northwest territory. It includes the Ohio Land Company office, the oldest building in Ohio, and Rufus Putnam’s house. It has exhibits about the early settlers life, as well as migrations of people to and from the area. There are exhibits to engage all ages. We took about an hour to go through it but you could easily spend several hours exploring the museum."
"We were given a tour of the Putnam house first. Our guide was very informative about the history of Marietta She was very enjoyable as well. We had done a little reading about Marietta before coming to town. We felt it helped us in asking questions as well as understanding the history. Would definitely recommend a visit there."
"Informative museum with lots of local and regional history. As with many museums, one visit does not do it justice! Ohio History Connection members get in free!"
"After reading David McCullough's book, The Pioneers, this was like seeing a book come to life. He did a lot of the research from the collections here. The best surprise was the well done exhibit on the migration of people from Appalachia to Ohio. It described the reasons people moved and the challenges they faced. It's easy to see connections with so many other groups who migrate."
"Very interesting, lots of amazing displays. They actually built the museum around the Putnam house! There are 3 levels of exhibits, plus the house and even some neat hands-on stuff for kiddos. The gift shop has a wide array of interesting things, very reasonably priced."
