"I was caught in a predicament when I began replacing my thermostat with a programmable thermostat. I knew better, but because I knew it was 24 volts, I didn't turn the power off. When putting the new thermostat on, I accidentally shorted the hot wire to the common and blew out the control transformer fuse. The temperature was heading to 16 degrees F that night, so I immediately called for help and, within about 1 hour, Jason showed up. He replaced the fuse and then installed the new thermostat for me. Actually, it was a good thing I asked him to install it because I discovered it had been returned to the store that I had purchased it from. It required testing and resetting before installing it. Jason tested it, reconfigured the settings and now it's all working well. Also, a couple of years prior, I had issues with the system not running. Carolina Heating came out, tested and repaired the unit and it began performing better than ever before and my electric bill has been lower ever since. The repair was extensive, but I won't explain it here. All I will say is, the builder had obviously installed a used unit when constructing the house and the freon was not clean causing poor performance from the time it was installed."
