"We went for a college to Savannah State, visiting in July 2019. We didn't do an official visit because they only do those 2 days a week in the summer, and that was fine. This is one of MANY college visits my husband and I have been on with this being our fourth and final child who's preparing for college. This was a unique experience. We got to the campus and was stopped at an entrance gate by a security guard. "
"I visited Savannah when the campus was on summer break. My rating is for the beauty of the campus. The campus has a nice and cozy feeling to it. There is a lot of history captured throughout campus. The fraternity/sorority row is ornately decorated. That part of campus was a great treat."
"I honestly hate to write a negative review however I want to tell the truth about my experience at SSU. Fall of 2016 i started my freshmen year at SSU with a positive outlook, very excited to begin college. I heard all the negative things said about Savannah State but refused to believe them and wanted to see for myself (looking back i wish i had listened). I was a Political Science major and had no academic adviser for the whole school year (Fall 2016-Spring 2017). Apparently the political science adviser had a medical issue, which caused her absence. The school never replaced the adviser and i struggled the entire year to register for classes, get advice, drop classes and add classes. The other advisers were expected to pick up the slack but had TERRIBLE attitudes about having extra students to advise and didn't want to see me or other other Political Science majors. Moving on to campus life : the students are ghetto (fights everyday), the food is nasty, many robberies on campus and the administration is rude and unhelpful to the students. I stayed in Bowen my first semester and it was awful. The dorms had mold, were very old and the bathrooms never had tissue and were always dirty (I moved to Tiger Place 2nd semester and it was much better). This is not a school i would recommend to others. On a positive note, the teachers were good overall."
"We visited for a campus tour. Everything was so unorganized and unprofessional. There were too many people in each group and we stood outside of buildings talking about beach parties instead of academics and organizations. We left the tour when the group stopped to review artwork and chat. One of my daughters is interested in SCAD and the other SSU but I really can't envision sending her here for an education."
"Someone was shot and stabbed here today and no precaution was taken. A gate is still left unsupervised and people are going in and out all night. This is the main gate foreigners walk on campus from. Don't come here. But if you do, it's an easy school to get into and once you have your GPA and enough credit hours, leave. This school is for one not safe. Two, the financial aid office is awful. They lose documents and are incredibly rude. They also make you pay 3000 for a apartment complex that needs to be redone and there is a gate that is in the back of the school, and is left unsupervised 24 7. People come and go day and nightly and most of the shooters and robbers who come on campus, leave through that gate. Just don't go here."
