"This was my first experience with a winter camp. What fun! Food was delicious and plenty of it too. Our site was clean and the hot water was HOT, just be mindful of the other occupant in the opposite shower, pressure will go down along with the heat, but still was a good shower. Loved that we have real toilets to use at our site. Yes, I said it! LOL We've used A LOT of pit privy's over the years. The program was fun for the kids. Myself and another leader went out to find the geocaches left about camp. So many positives. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers for their hard work to make our experience a wonderful one!"
"So peaceful. It was me and my kids' first time coming with his troop. He was nervous at first but he got with the other boys and he was good. He begged me to come and didn't pay me any mind the whole weekend! I was sitting there wondering why I was even there! Clearly, he could handle his own! But I'm glad I got to experience that moment with him. The Scouts teach life-long lessons and skills, and this is what I want for my son. He's on the spectrum, and he has trouble understanding other people's emotions. So this is giving him great social skills that he can take with him through his lifetime. It's beautiful out there!"
"This was a cool little camp. We drove in from Georgia. They had a lot of water classes that we usually don't get to do. The staff was great. The grub was good. The site was clean. It was just hot as all get out. Makes for a hard time of sleeping. They had a few places with a/c for the adult leaders to chill out. This was a life saver. All on all it was a great time"
"Camp Ho non wah is the picture of the old south. However the huge trees covered in spanish moss and the densely populated forest could not make up for lack of southern hospitality shown by the ranger. This venue had all the makings of a truly outstanding BSA camp including friendly wild life, a variety of plants, and a well designed layout. However the facilities were not as manicured as other camps we have visited and some of the facilities were not clean when we arrived. However in true scout fashion we made sure that we cleaned the areas we used leaving the camp in better shape than it was when we found it. I understand the maintenance issues could be because it was a long and hot summer. I also understand that numerous groups try to take advantage of kindness, however clearly communicated rules at reservation time that are reiterated at check in can reduce much stress from management and visitors."
