"From the Blue Wall Preserve, you will find this scenic section of the Palmetto Trail offers a lot of diversity. As you wander over rolling hills, you will be treated to some beautiful views of mountains, clear ponds. East to west, miles 0-6, easy; miles 6-12, moderate; miles 12-14, strenuous. ***Remember to carry water and during warm weather insect repellent is advised! NO MOUNTAIN BIKING, CAMPING, OR FIRES IN THE NATURE CONSERVANCY'S BLUE WALL PRESERVE (MILE MARKER 10.5 TO 14). NO CAMPING ON FENCE PROPERTY. Directions: Trailhead at SC Nature Conservancy’s Blue Wall Preserve: From I-26 take exit 1 (SC Hwy 14) west toward Landrum. Turn right (north) on US Hwy 176, just after the railroad tracks. Drive approximately 2 miles and turn left onto Lakeshore Drive, the entrance to Lake Lanier. Follow Lakeshore Drive across the bridge. Then follow West Lakeshore Drive around the lake to Dug Hill Road (on right). The trailhead and parking are on the left about 500 feet down Dug Hill Road."
"Lovely area. We did the twin pond trail. Small waterfall is delightful. Butterflies were stirring this August morning. We did the twin pond trail, circling the waterfall and ponds portion twice making our walk 4 miles."
"I've done this trail several times before but it's been a few years... When a group of us tackled this trail last week, most of us had forgotten how strenuous this hike is. After you walk around 1.5 miles on a gravel roadbed passing a couple lakes/ponds, you finally get to the real hiking trail and some very pretty woods. We got to see some pretty wild flowers in bloom: to name a few, some blue-eyed grass, pink nodding Trillium, a few toad shade trillium, something we nicknamed rhodazaleas (because the flowers look like azaleas and the leaves like rhododendrons) and several more that I forgot the names of. It also includes a few water crossings mostly on top of rocks unless we've had a good rain. It is steep in several places. Towards the end where there are also lots of leaves covering the trail making it "slippery", it's important to have a hiking stick(s) to help you keep yourself upright. I will do it again..."
"A nice, easy and beautiful little walking trail that features amazing views and a small waterfall. The parking lot is gravel and space is limited, so arrive early. Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed and cleaned up afterwards. If you're in the Landrum area, it's worth a visit. NOTE: There are no restrooms or trash cans on this trail."
"The parking lot is gravel fits maybe 6 cars. The trail continues along the gates road, after you cross the concrete bridge (dilapidated but stable) the road becomes gravel and you will see the Blue Wall sign. The trail is very well kept and well traveled. It leads to two small ponds and a nice water fall. The palmetto trail continues"
