"Fantastic learning center for kids. The staff is amazing. The movies they showed were fantastic. They have a ton of events that help kids get connected to the outdoors. Will be going back"
"Fantastic facility and exhibits. Staff is kind and knowledgeable. Make the time to sit through one of the educational sessions - we did Birds of Edisto and Thomas was fantastic. Kids should be encouraged to do the scavenger hunt. Don’t miss the video presentations just off the gift store for some great info."
"I grew up camping and enjoying what the park offers at Edisto Island with my mother. I remember the TINY Nature Center right on the beach back 20 years ago, and this new facility is AMAZING! Not sure why anyone would rate it or the rangers less than 5 stars! (Referencing less complimentary reviews- Yes there are water fountains outside and yes there are mosquitos, it's a MARSH island!) The new building is Green certified and meant to work with and protect the local environment. It is modern and bright with natural elements. The exhibits are interactive and educational for all ages and a lot of thought was put into the layout. They have well cared for live animals in clean and tidy enclosures. Mary and Thomas were phenomenal in their enthusiasm to create, teach, and lead the many interesting and fun programs at the ELC. They have a real love for South Carolina's wildlife and protecting the local species. Thomas has a passion for all of the live animals used in the educational programs and it makes the programs even better when someone is eager to share their knowledge. Mary's classes were so fun and we discussed everything from bird migration to the tiny (and fascinating!) lives of crabs. I had no idea she would convert me into such a crab lover! My mom and I attended almost every class offered over a week's time and got to know the building and staff very well. I'm so happy to see Edisto Island, a place I have so many fond memories of, have a dedicated team of rangers to teach others about this wild and magical place!"
"Our family had a great time. Our young naturalists had a great time checking out the fossils and preserved artifacts. The touch pool was really neat. We even saw a painted bunting at the bird feeders."
"Phenomenal place! Interactive exhibits and displays teach about the ACE basin. Kids will love the touch tank. Take a walk to the fishing pier and you might see a bald eagle and maybe a river otter (we did!) very helpful and knowledgeable staff."
