Southside Terrace Apartments

"AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This apartment complex is filled with mold, the carpets are old and filthy. Windows are single pane and rattle, never updated from when the place was built. The walls and floors thin, you can hear every conversation from neighbors at talking volume. Barking dogs everywhere, parking lot is full of potholes. The apartments have 1 ancient AC that blasts moldy musky air and was unusable. Bathroom fan was broken and with no windows, the humidity caused more mold in the bathroom. 2 years of HELL at this place. They refused to give my deposit back and when I asked for an itemized list of damages, the manager hung up on me. I know there are few affordable choices in the area but this place should be your last choice if you are desperate and about to be homeless."

"This place is close to campus, maintenance is always available to fix any problems you have and the prices are reasonable. I received my security deposit back in full, and had no problems with the office. Don’t let reviews scare you, aside from thin walls (it is a college town) and sometimes unreliable hot water it isn’t that bad"

"I’ll start with the cons first -the day we moved in our apartment lock already wasn’t working and had to be replaced, in the months following we have discovered that every single door in this apartment doesn’t work correctly whether it be the locks or the doorknobs just falling straight off which has been the case for two of our doors. There is a gap in between our front door and the wall which causes an extreme draft and the heat is like a gamble. The water temperature is also a gamble and it gets extremely hot very quickly. The whole place was definitely not cleaned beyond a dust and a vacuum before we moved in, there’s permanent globs of paint staining our bathtub as well as hair stuck in the paint on the walls. We are missing the cover to our bathroom light which we were told had just been ordered in July, it is now February and even after reaching out I have heard nothing back. The walls have layers upon layers of paint on them which is chipping in some areas and there are tons of infilled holes in our walls. The walls themselves are paper thin and you can clearly hear your neighbors which is especially awful when both your upstairs and downstairs neighbors are in a cycle of partying which isn’t necessarily an issue, this is a college town after all and we do get rowdy ourselves but at times our curling has started to shake and there are now some small cracks forming in them. The plowing situation is pretty mediocre but I understand that there’s only so much you can do sometimes. Here are the pros Colleen is super nice and friendly. The furniture that came with the apartment is really comfortable. It’s a good location in terms of proximity to campus."

"Becoming a single mom, the landlord Debbie has been a very valuable person to me and helping me whenever I needed something. Always open and able to communicate any issues that may have come up,and also maintenance has always been very responsive to whatever I needs I may have had with my apartment. I have enjoyed my time here and will be continuing for another year after being here for two years already. If you need an understanding and attentive landlord to any needs, then Southside is the place that you should live."

"If I could put them out of business, I would. Not only did my ceiling cave in when the water main broke, after being "repaired" the day before, but NO housing arrangements were made for me even when I KNEW they had empty apartments. So instead of charging me $1,650 a month for my ONE BEDROOM apartment when I renewed my lease, they lowered it to $1,165 because I threatened to take them to court. The lady, Debbie, who works at the office is known for having a serious opiate problem and she constantly pays off the town board and housing inspector to not respond to tenant complaints or take them seriously. You'll never, EVER, see the landlord in person, and EVERY SINGLE ground-floor apartment is infested with BLACK MOLD. Debbie preys on foreign students whose parents pay their rent and tells their parents that there are "unforeseen rise in cost for heat this month" in order to scam foreigners out of their money. But for non-students who work hard for their money, they won't do ANYTHING for you! They hire, fire, and re-hire incapable staff. They refused to hire me as a maintenance worker because I actually know how to do the job but doing things the right way is "too costly" so instead of fixing anything, they patch and glue (literally) things back together. There is no point in renting for the amenities because they are essentially NON-EXISTENT. The pool has not been maintained in years. Don't believe me? Take a look for yourselves! Rust and cracks everywhere, it's amazing it even holds water to begin with! Seriously DO NOT rent from Southside! Maybe once they see low tenant turn-over, they will step up and hire staff that aren't junkies!"
