"George and crew have done a few jobs for us in the past couple years and I’d like to take the time to acknowledge what a stand up company it is. He’s done anything from getting a filter unstuck, to just a phone call with some advice, to adding a new water line from the road. He will show up on time with tools on hand and come in at or under his quoted price. We’ve had no issues and have made several referrals to his company!"
"GNR thank-you for the great job you did. You dug the trench for our water line and had it all cleaned up. We are now ready for the next step. If we have any other jobs we won't hesitate to call you."
"I'll try to be as fair and objective as possible on my review.... but long story short, I will absolutely never use George's services again....I have several rental properties and regularly hire contractors to do work. I also have worked in the Facilities Management Industry for over 10 years. I have worked with A LOT of different contractors. My experience with George was one of the worst... George has done a couple of minor jobs for me in the past. Spreading stone on a small driveway, replacing a short water service line... those jobs went OK. He has also quoted me a couple others where he was either astronomically high, or he would not quote me a price, he would only give me a weekly rate of labor (a bathroom) despite asking him several times for quote. I've never seen anyone unable to hard quote a bathroom before.... I hired him in Oswego to make repairs on a sewer line that was broken. I had another contractor camera it so the we could pinpoint the spot for repair. George was in charge of the job and did the excavation, another plumber was hired to do the actual plumbing work. George provided me a contract, he called dig safe to get everything cleared we were all set up to go. George took 2 days to complete the job because it included concrete sidewalk work. The problem came at the end of the job. He asked for $800 extra (10% of the job) for the final payment. When I asked why he listed off a bunch of things that did not seem realistic to me. and then he told me that charges should have been $2,000 and that he was saving me money. So I went and evaluated the job vs the contract for myself to see if it was fair.... things like this do happen... This is what I found. 1. The contract said that he was going to excavate up to a 10'x10' area. He didn't, he dug a 5x11 area and then undercut the sidewalk by 2'. So he maybe excavated 75% of contract max. 2. Despite not having a specific depth in the contract he told me he dug over 10' deep and that was an extra charge. I knew that this was BS because I could count ladder rungs from the ladder he had in his trench and I could clearly see where the sewer line exited the building.... there was no way. Later when I called him out on his safety violation he admitted that he was only 6'-7' down. He lied completely.....I have the texts.... 3. He had in the contract that he was going to provide shoring for the trench to keep it safe from cave ins per OSHA regulation. He bought the lumber and then never built or used a dig box. He tried to tell me that the town was there and they didn't say anything about it and that the plumber didn't want it so he was covered. That is ABSOLUTELY not the case. OSHA does not care about the town or the plumbing contractor. This was a major safety violation and it put liability on me and my property. Not only that, but where is my refund for the lumber that he never used per the contract?? 4. He tried to charge me more for hand digging around a water line that he very clearly knew that he was going to be running into. The water line comes in to the basement about a foot above the sewer line. We were both looking at it in the basement together, and then dig safe market the line outside on the sidewalk, so we knew it didn't jog right or left. It was CLEARLY there. We spoke about it the night before over a bear signing the contract. He knew exactly where the line was. Not only that but he was trying to charge me $250/ hr for a $17/hr a guy to hand dig..... He didn't have any extra rent time on the machine, he still had it for the 1 day. The entire claim was BS. If he had hit an unknown utility line, maybe I could see that.... not for $250 an hour though, common. So, I refused the extra payment. In my opinion, he tried to sell me a time and materials contract disguised as a hard quote. It seems to me like it was either predatory and he thought I would just pay it because I don't know any better... Or maybe he does not know how to estimate and he was trying to cover for underbidding the project. Original quote was 8,375 for just the dig..."
"I’ve know George for over 15 years. I’ve had him do several jobs over the years for my two homes. He’s very knowledgeable. Can fix and build just about anything. He’s always on time and he stays until the job is done. I would recommend him to anyone and have!!"
"GNR Excavation is outstanding. George completed a comprehensive quote quickly, that was more than fair for materials and labor. Everything from the dig out, grading, form setting and concrete pore was on time and professionally done. Exceptional service is an understatement. I will be using GNR Excavating for all future projects. Thanks again Georgie!"
