Reviews
"Similar experience to the other reviews here. Terrible communication. My pod was supposed to be delivered in 6 days, and it has been almost a month. They do not respond to emails, do not respond to phone calls. You call the sales line, they transfers you to the service line, and you are promptly disconnected. Their callback service "is disconnected at this time" and if you select it, you get disconnected. During the initial complaints they promised compensation for my troubles but have yet to do that or deliver my POD. Stay AWAY and use a more reputable service."
"UPDATE: As you'll see, the company reached out (below) and created the impression that they were addressing my complaints. Lip service. They are not serious about addressing any of my complaints (or any of the other complaints in the many one star reviews scattered around the web). ORIGINAL REVIEW: Where to start? Sales rep was reluctant to provide me with the written contract after we'd agreed on a price -- I had to email several times. Contract is seemingly simple but it actually is riddled with hyperlinks to other documents full of further legal details. Although he explained the basic services fine, he failed to note the possibility of a fuel surcharge when discussing the 'total' price. He also didn't mention the rock bottom reimbursement rate for delivery being late ($50/day excluding weekends, as if I would need my stuff at my new house over a weekend! Silly me). A few weeks after my initial call to the sales rep (and signing up for service), the rep's email bounced back, he'd apparently left the company, on to greener pastures. On the electronic side, ZS maintains the façade of communication -- by sending out silly emails about remembering to buy packing tape, etc. Not helpful. They pepper these emails with a customer service number that rarely gets you through to a human being. We received several contradictory emails about when our pod would show up, had to call the local movers (who ZS contracts with) to clarify. Emails about confirming delivery of my pod were all over the place, a total of four different dates. The pod itself was 7 days late, which I found out via a phone call from an actual person four days prior to the original delivery date. (It took them 22 days to move our stuff from Chicago to Portland, nearly a covered wagon pace.) She left a message and asked me to call her back to discuss 'compensation' for being late, which was the aforementioned $50/day (knowing I would have to invest time to get through the Byzantine phone system when I returned the call). The second delivery date was pushed back twice at the last minute and was communicated by a chipper email that listed the (new) date and, at this point, communicated zero credibility (the vibe: “maybe your stuff will show up tomorrow, maybe the next day, we don’t really know but we wish you the best”). Since our pod was delayed, I had to shuffle things to be available for the new delivery dates popping up in my inbox. I called and asked to extend the period for unloading (because I am putting in full days at my new job at this point, camping in the living room and eating off paper plates). When I actually talk to a human, they confirm that I can have four days to ‘self-unload’ the pod. I get an email confirming this. Two emails with further delays later, I get an email that my pod was at the warehouse (ok?) and that it was being delivered that morning. An hour later the delivery guy calls and gives me an ETA. Delivery was smooth. His best professional decision was not working directly for ZS. We unload our stuff as quick as possible – within a day and a half – thinking we had four days to unload but knowing, from experience, that ZS’s promises are as firm as Jell-O. Sure enough, two days prior to the end of our unload period, we wake up and the pod is gone. Thankfully, we got it unloaded in time before the clandestine retrieval. The icing on the cake was the aforementioned fuel surcharge that is buried in the contract or addendums somewhere, hoisted on us in the final bill (ironically, listed right under an itemized cost that read ‘total price’). The surcharge, I learned, was the cost of fuel in transit that exceeded the original fuel estimate when the contract was agreed to (i.e., accounting for fluctuating prices during transit). This was not a small amount, $340. I suppose fuel prices would go up if you wait 22 days to ship a container from Chicago to Portland. They earn every one star review out there. Make the right decision, dear mover."
