"I visited this shop a few months ago looking for an engagement ring for my then fiancé. Be it that there aren’t many jewelers in Southport, I had hoped that Southern Charm could accommodate me. I was so terribly wrong about this, upon entry I was met with discontent and eyes full of spite- you could see the reflection of the staff’s disposition towards me. Being a person of color I’m used to this type of thing, but there was something about this stare I couldn’t shake. As I made my way through the underwhelming selection, I finally found a piece I was interested in. I motioned and politely asked for help but was ignored until a lady named Michelle came and helped. She approached me and met my eyes with a half smile. We browsed through a few rings of my interest and my top pick I presented last- as soon as I asked about it she began laughing. She said to me, still jovial, “Yeah honey, that’s gonna be way out of your price range.” and followed with another laugh. This hurt as she knew nothing about my financial situation ( I could have afforded that and many more, especially of their cheap metalwork they disguise as “jewelry”) but jumped to make an assumption based off of what could only be her prejudiced and skewed world view. Needless to say I gathered my pride and left. They say go where you’re appreciated, let me tell you that at Southern Charm jewelers, people of color are not valued customers."

"My wife and I went in to ask a question, and see if they could help with a new clasp on a necklace. They are the nicest people we have ever met! From the time we were greeted at the door, throughout our visit then and 2 days later. Awesome folks. We felt right at home. We will definitely be back for all jewelry purchases. Their collection was beautiful and such a broad impressive inventory! I can not say enough good things about them! Heather and Michelle were fantastic!"

"My mother and myself stopped here on a rainy day during our vacation to get permanent jewelry. Everyone in the shop welcomed us with open arms and helped us pick out exactly what we wanted - my mom got a bracelet and myself an anklet. We both got white gold paperclip chains, and Michelle helped us pick between materials based on our lifestyle. Michelle, Chicky, Heather, and Michael were phenomenal and extremely pleasant company. A few days later, I noticed my anklet was a little tighter than I wanted, so I gave them a call to see if we could come back in for a readjustment. Michael originally couldn’t come into the shop to adjust for us until later, so we cancelled and thanked them anyway. To our surprise, 30 minutes later, they called us and said come on in and adjusted my anklet free of charge! I cannot say enough how friendly and helpful everyone in the shop is. Please give them your business - their jewelry selection is to DIE for!"

"I can't say enough about this jewelry store, every piece of jewelry that I have bought or received is absolutely gorgeous and of great quality. Michelle and Michael is absolutely wonderful to work with also Heather too and they will do their best to make sure you leave with exactly what you are looking for. They are very knowledgeable about gold, silver, diamonds and even repairing your jewelry. I even bought a gold bracelet back in the 90's from Michelle when she worked with her parents in their store at "Oak Island Jewelry" and I still get compliments on that bracelet today.
