Marshall Field Music Building

The Marshall Field Music Building, located on Wrexham Road in Yonkers, New York, is a key institution within the university. Housed in the beautiful Georgian mansion known as Marshall Field House, the Music Program at the institution thrives in this historic setting. The building features a drawing room that is utilized for a variety of purposes, including lectures, Master Classes, ensemble performances, and student recitals.

Students have access to eleven performance and instruction studios, each equipped with audio and recording equipment, for practicing throughout the day. Additionally, there are seven private practice studios, a chamber music studio, a percussion studio, a computer room, and three practice studios available to students at all times. The Electronic Music Studio is equipped with state-of-the-art synthesizers, computers, and MIDI gear to facilitate electronic music composition.

The William Schuman Music Library boasts an extensive sound recording collection and provides students with fully equipped listening and computer stations for study and research. The Reisinger Concert Hall, a 400-seat auditorium, hosts a variety of events including choral and orchestra concerts, student concerto evenings, and performances by faculty and visiting artists.

The electronic music studio offers a wide range of equipment for students to explore digital synthesis, recording, and editing. Students have access to the studio beyond class time, allowing for creative exploration and collaboration across disciplines such as music, dance, theater, and filmmaking. Under the direction of John Yannelli, the Electronic Music Program at Sarah Lawrence College continues to inspire and support student creativity in the performing arts.
