"Initially I really liked Dr Bartels but he began to ignore my serious complaints and concerns. I stayed there for many years; he delivered one of my children and no one showed up for the other one so the residents at Sisters delivered him. I had problems with pain, fatigue, and other debilitating symptoms for a long time and he never took me seriously. As a nurse, I often blame myself for not leaving sooner. The last thing he said to me before I left was “you don’t have endometriosis.” After bleeding for a year with no answers, I switched doctors and the new one scheduled a hysterectomy (I was 40). I woke up from that surgery to hear that my endometriosis was so advanced and so complicated and my abdomen so full of scar tissue and adhesions that my uterus was basically encased in all of it and I would need to see an oncologist for the surgery, which I did end up having. It’s about 6 years post surgery now and it still upsets me how much of my life was basically ruined by this man. Years of needless suffering. Missed work. Inability to play with my kids. Years of being written off as some whack job I guess. Never an apology bc that would be admitting fault. Beware."
