"I was scheduled for a colonoscopy today (8/19/2021 ) with Surinder Devgun MD at 20 Hagen Drive In Rochester NY. This was to initiate a workup for possible ileostomy reversal. However, when I arrived to the office at 7:00 a.m. I was greeted by an S.C.I. nurse, who identified herself only as "from Mobile Anesthesiologists." This nurse, Kelly Newton, canceled the procedure, stating that “it’s the law” that requires “someone who knows you” provide transportation to and from the procedure. She stated that “the law” would not allow me to hire a taxi, medical or otherwise. A little digging into Google produced no such law but did show the website of the NY Dept of Health, which under the section “Medical Transportation,” indicates that licensed livery (taxi) drivers are authorized by the Department to provide transportation to and from medical offices. During a subsequent phone call with S.C.I. employee “Lindsay,” it was revealed that what Nurse Kelly was referring to was internal policy, not “the law,” which makes her a liar as well as a nurse with poor patient care skills. There were alternatives here, one of which was signing a waiver of responsibility should I choose to risk my life by riding in a car driven by a licensed, reliable taxi driver, but the nurse insisted upon canceling my procedure instead. Needless to say, I am now out $198.00 in taxi fees as well as $200.00 in lost wages —for a procedure that never took place because of the Kelly Newton preferred t0 be a bully lying to get her own way rather than a nurse concerned with patient care. Now I have to reestablish care with another gastroenterologist before I can reschedule the colonoscopy that should have taken place today. I suggest that Ms Newton and S.C.I., Mobile Anesthesiologists, or whatever they call themselves hope and pray that nothing serious is found on this subsequent colonoscopy, because they won’t be facing a complaint. They will be facing a lawsuit."
