"URMC’s Department of Orthotics is nothing short of an embarrassment to our community and has no business even operating in its current form, Period! Phone calls don’t get returned, my original orthotic shoe insert was lost somewhere within their system and nobody could ever account for its whereabouts. It took no less than two weeks for the department to even figure that their insert had gone missing. A replacement was re-ordered, but was improperly designed/fitted and my prior foot ulcer reemerged just as soon as I started wearing the orthotic that I had been provided. I was then asked to return, so that a modification could be made for the orthotic shoe insert. The end result was a laughable Band-Aid of sorts, which was affixed to the bottom of the orthotic in some ridiculous attempt to slow the pressure point of the sole of my foot from wearing through the orthotic completely. Despite my applying strip upon strip of moleskin on my totally inadequate and failing orthotic, my foot ulcer grew to the point that my entire foot become badly infected and to the point that I had to be again hospitalized (for the second time and for the very same issue). To reiterate, the orthotic had done absolutely nothing in terms of distributing the weight of that foot’s pressure point. Currently I am in the hospital because my foot had again became so badly infected that I had to get immediate antibiotic drips four times a day, in an effort to avoid a partial amputation of the foot altogether. And this is the second time in two years that I have nearly had to have a partial foot amputation and for the very same problem. Needless to say, URMC Department of Orthotics, as it run today, should be shut down due to gross incompetence/negligence ( and the other reviews on this site which average 1.6 on a five point scale - the lowest score for anything I have ever seen - suggest as much as well. For heaven’s sake, put some trained medical doctors in charge of that place once and for all and start operating the place with some degree of professionalism for a change!"
"This place has to be one of the most unprofessional and incompetent medical offices I've ever been to. I got fitted for an AFO 3 months ago and still don't have it, that isn't even the biggest issue. The lack of communication between them and their patients is beyond unprofessional. The day of my appointment, when I thought I was picking up my AFO, I get a call a couple hours before my appointment saying it isn't there. No explanation as to why, no appointment rescheduled, nothing. When I asked to speak to Jessica Jayanna, the person who fitted me for my AFO and gave me her business card, I was told she was in appointments and meetings all day and she would get back to me. The next day comes and goes no call, I have to call the office again to which they respond that THIS time they will leave a "high priority" message for her. Another whole day goes by, no response. Today I call at approximately 1600 and ask what is going on and why I haven't received any communication. The secretary tells me that Jessica left a note for the secretary's at 0500 that morning to relay to me, they did not until I called. So now they said the next available appointment is 3 weeks out but they are still unsure if it will be in by then. The lack of communication within their own organization and with their patients is boarder line incompetence. I still have not spoke with Jessica Jayanna via phone, email or My Chart. Instead I am speaking to a middle man, their secretary, that the only answers she can give me are "I don't know" or "I'll leave a message with her and she'll get back to you", which she doesn't. I would not recommend this place to anyone, you are better off going anywhere else."
"They have done ok by my son. However the AFO is 4inches wide and impossible to find youth shoes for it. I've expressed this concern many times and I keep getting the same answer- to try new balance. Well obviously it's been 3.5 years so we have tried all kinds of different shoes and it is still a struggle. Our most recent appt we waited over 30min in the waiting room because of a scheduling error they made."
"Went for orthotic for my shoes to help with sesamoiditis. The insert provided was quite painful and he urged me to try it and said if I needed to come back to have it adjusted to call and they'd be able to get me right in. False. The thing is killing my foot, they offered me an appointment for 5 days into the future. No thanks, I'm ripping the thing he put on the orthotic off, I fear more damage to my foot from it."
"After waiting four weeks to redo orthotics that were done incorrectly I called the office to follow up. I was told I would get a call back by.end of the day. It has now been six weeks three messages and no return phone calls."
