"I came to work with Dale and Heartwork about eight years ago and it has been a truly transformational journey for me. Prior to this, I had done traditional psychotherapy with a variety of other providers over a 20ish year period. Although these therapy sessions were exceedingly beneficial and often lifesaving, what Dale and Heartwork brought to me and my healing was so much more. Heartwork to me is really diving into what is going on around you. Not just surface issues, although those need to be dealt with as well, but something much deeper than that. It is a process of continually being curious about what is going on in your thoughts as well as your body. It is learning to be quiet and listen to what is happening around you, what your reactions are and then begin to inquire into why those are your reactions. It is a process of peeling back layer after layer after layer until you get to the core, the “heart” of the matter. Heartwork has allowed me to move so much farther along my path of healing than traditional psychotherapy had. It has allowed me a safe space to immerse myself deeply into my pain, to acknowledge it, truly feel it and move forward from it. The Heartwork process is not so much about eradicating feelings or behavior, it is more about acknowledging them and understanding where they fit in the larger landscape. Through that acknowledgment and understanding, I have been able to see myself for who I am truly and not define myself by the traumatic events which have occurred in my life. This does not mean those events have been forgotten or erased in some way, but rather that I see them for what they are - horrendously painful occurrences which happened and are recognized, but not who I am. This work is exceedingly difficult and often extremely painful, but the end results are worth it to me. Not only have I been able to heal this internal pain and live my life more joyfully, but it has had a ripple effect on how I see my world and interact with those around me. It has helped me to foster a sense of compassion not only for myself but for others in my life. For me, Heartwork has been truly life transforming. I am so grateful my life crossed paths with Dale’s."
