Reviews of Q680 Queens Gateway to Health Sciences Secondary School
"I honestly expected more before i came to this school because of what others have told me. But the truth is, the school barely teaches you anything, there are barely any teachers, and not enough extracurricular activities. Also, the new students have behavioral issues and the principal literally sucks."
"The secondary school has been at a downfall since the pandemic. Most of the “extracurricular” activities (not including sports) are produced by the students and even then, lack support from teachers and school officials. There are no official clubs, there are barely any clubs. Students are expected to go out of their way to find after school activities that (hopefully) count towards their college applications and/or résumés. There is no hospital or health science program (ironic) and there has not been one since BEFORE 2020. The arts department (music, art, drama, dance) has been diminished to a music class and an art class. Even these “arts” classes are meant to be treated as AP or rigorous classes. They are not taught as though to allow students to explore and indulge in something outside of academics that can help involve them in some hobby or interest later in life. No school productions, or performances, or showcases. Just statistics, numbers, graduation rates, report card grades. Supporting the student is done through getting the school higher numbers, and not enriching the experience of the students or even the teachers. TEACHERS want students to be more involved and interested in school, STUDENTS want the school to offer MORE. And rightfully so. The website is reflects most of these concerns expressed throughout this review. The school officials, APs, VPs, and Principal must do something to balance the rigorous, core subject courses/programs, and the LACK of extracurricular, arts classes/programs. Students have a right to gain enhancing, improving experiences in their schools before attending college or experiencing the real world, Gateway is just one step behind."
"My sister goes to this school and I believe that school is really nice but she does complain about some of the teachers. For example Most of the time she complains about mrs ranyack… I do not know this teacher I’ve never seen her. Other than that I believe that this school is great especially In academics. If you will like to send you child there it will be a great place. It is nice and safe. My sister complains about the principal and there are lots of articles about the principal in this school. That is why I give this school an 3/5 rating"
"I'm a Junior who attends this school and I have to admit that this is absolutely a great school. The teachers are great, friendly, and respectful, and that it's pretty much a positive environment. The education is great also there's balanced and a reasonable amount of homework given. The only thing that I hate about school is that it lacks extracurriculars, sure it has some sports teams that I'm in but where are all the clubs? If you don't have a problem with the lack of extracurriculars and want a literally good education for your Future then this might be the school for you but then again it has its ups and downs, keep an open mind."
