Reviews of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy
"Lots of professionals in the business - but that means they aren't really great teachers in many instances. Rather than explain and teach - they expect students to just imitate and emulate. What's worse is the administration - where no one appears to talk to anyone else. Anything you do has to be tracked and you have to push administration to get things done. If it goes through multiple departments, expect people to say "that isn't my department - you have to call them." No help, no advice, and no expertise in running a college. They put a lot of people into the arts profession - but expect to have to do A LOT of the work yourself and don't expect help from anyone if you get lost in the program."
"I joined AMDA NYC back in 2021 Fall. This school has changed my life. Incredible staffing who are all working professionals within the acting world and all are incredibly motivated, fun and inspiring. My time at this school has been nothing but positive thus far and, the school continues to get better and better. I have done my own reading into reviews and the bad reviews have definitely changed. I have seen things change here, I have seen things become progressively better for the students here at AMDA. AMDA has become much more of a supporting and safe environment for not just me but for everybody who needs it. You certainly learn a lot here, develop great connections with your teachers and get plenty of opportunities out here. I myself, am certainly glad that I chose this school. Great friends, great classes, great locations, great teachers and all around an incredibly exiting journey."
"Its a fantastic professional atmosphere. The NY campus is strictly performing arts and teach no general eds- it's professional training, NOT a university. Any MT school will not transfer performing credits so this is not unique to AMDA. If you want a 4 year BFA you can get that at their LA campus. Almost every show or tour has 2 alums, some have 4 or 5. Their alum list is amazing."
"My daughter just graduated in Sept 2017 from NYC in dance. She had a very positive experience from start to finish! Starting with Elliott Kerr, Assistant Director of Admissions. Elliott did a nice job of answering all our questions and helping get all our paperwork completed. Our daughter loved all her teachers and has said through out her program, "this is the right school for me." I feel like the program and the school prepared her for auditioning and the life of a performer! THANK YOU AMDA!"
"The staff is amazing! Wonderful teachers who will push you to the Limit, if you can manage to get through the first year, you will see yourself grow into who you truly are. Fore warning you will get as much from this school as you put into it. NYC will chew you up when you first arrive, but remember fear doesn't shut you down, it wakes you up. Fair thoughts, and good fortune on your journey."
