"Received our repaired clock today. It is beautiful and works amazing! We gave that clock to my husbands parents for Christmas back in the 90βs and for some reason it quit moving and playing music many years ago. His parents are both deceased now and they loved that clock so we wanted to keep it in the family. Thank you so much!"
"I was so lucky to find this business and Mr Kay! The clocks belonged to my deceased brother and it was his wish to have them repaired. I thought I was going to have to trash all of those clocks. I couldn't find anyone who does this kind of work on key/wind up clocks anymore. I had 5 vintage clocks repaired, to include a house call to repair a 40+ yr old grandfather clock! I had to drive 1.5 hrs to get to him (I live in Fayetteville), but it was well worth it. I am THRILLED to have them ALL running and the tick-tock in every room is heavenly..... Mr Kay is professional, thorough, courteous and he follows up and stands by his work! A RARE quality these days! I would HIGHLY recommend him and his business!"
"Mr. Kaye is by far the best. Do not trust your clocks to anyone but him. (Trust me)- when we moved -3 hours away- I took my cuckoo clock to a recommended repairman in Dallas, NC. He had it for months, and did not fix the problem. I had to take it back to Dennis Kaye to get it in working order again. His knowledge and incredible attention to detail is outstanding. You may have to be patient, as he is in such demand...sorry you have to get in line. His workshop is FULL of repaired clocks ready for pickup and ones waiting for repair. ********* - can't give enough stars!!"
"Short version: We took an anniversary clock that was running slow to Dennis Kaye (Advanced Clock Repair) for a repair, we are now out $100 and in return we have a box of clock pieces, see attached pictures of before and after. Long version: After we initially gave him the clock to repair, he kept it for weeks then finally contacted us saying he could repair it for $100. We accepted and again waited a least a month or two. He contacted us saying the clock was fixed and ready to pick up. We paid him the $100 and took the clock home only to find that the chime was now broken so we returned it to him to fix the chime. Again we waited several weeks, when he called this time he said that the clock is in front of him in pieces and apparently doesn't work at all. He said that due to a crack inside the mechanism the chime will never work again. He must have caused this crack because the chime was working perfectly every quarter hour before we gave it to him and now he's telling me it doesn't keep time or chime at all now. He basically gave me two choices: 1) pay him to continue to work on it and try to find another movement to replace the broken one, but that it still wouldn't chime or 2) take it home in pieces. Obviously these aren't options but an ultimatum. As any customer would do, I asked for a full refund and for him to return the clock reassembled. His response was that he has never returned anyone's money and he's not returning ours. He lectured me about "spending a lot of time on this clock" and tried to tell me that the part he ordered didn't work and he had to send it back at his expense. In my opinion, none of these issues are the customer's problem or responsibility, these are the resultant actions of an incompetent repairman. When I continued to ask for our money back he said he would only return the clock in pieces and half the money back. Unacceptable. We paid him to repair our clock and he has apparently destroyed it. The discussion turned heated as I demanded a full refund of our money and the clock returned, not in pieces but re-assembled. He hung up on me. The next day my wife called and requested the clock be returned (he ignored my text message requesting this), he gave us the run around trying to convince my wife to pay him to work on it some more, giving various potential outcomes that made no sense to me and conflicted with what he told me the previous day. It felt like this guy was giving us the run around and was trying to milk us for more money. My wife stood her ground and he finally agreed to return the clock. What he gave us was a box of pieces, I'm not even sure if it's all the pieces and what if anything can be salvaged. This is a sad story because the clock, especially the chime, had sentimental value to my wife and it is now completely non-functional. On our way out he told my wife she was "making a foolish mistake", no sir, the only foolish mistake we made was coming to you in the first place. Edit: He has now threated to sue my wife and I if we do not remove our negative reviews. I have double-checked each statement and made edits to terminology that may have been too harsh. I stand by what I have written and I assure you that it is an accurate account of my experience with this individual. We have absolutely nothing to gain from this review, and now may be faced with a lawsuit for stating the truth about our experiences."
"Dennis has been great to work with restoring some vintage 24-hour clocks. After asking around at other clock shops, I was directed to him as someone who can get hard-to-find parts. Glad I found him."
