James H. Lynn Planetarium and Science Theater

The James H. Lynn Planetarium and Science Theater, located at 1500 East Garrison Boulevard in Gastonia, North Carolina, is a must-see attraction at The Schiele Museum. With one of the largest planetariums in North Carolina, visitors can enjoy an immersive experience unlike any other in the area.

Featuring a fully digital projection system that surrounds the audience with a domed, 360-degree screen, the planetarium offers shows that go beyond just recreating the night sky. From the wonders of the universe to programs in various disciplines such as history and biology, the Science Theater has also hosted musical acts, astronaut lectures, and even weddings.

Please note that the planetarium will be closed for construction in May 2024 and will reopen in June with updated seating and a fresh new look. Programs rotate on a monthly basis, so be sure to check the online calendar of events for showtimes during your visit.

Ticket purchases are non-refundable, and late admission or readmission once a program begins is not permitted due to the dark environment of the planetarium.
