Reviews of El Mil Sabores
"Absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had at an establishment. We walked in and were greeted and I asked if it was a full menu or if they had a breakfast menu. The cashier stated it was breakfast and gave us a menu of about 7 breakfast options. I asked for the burrito with chorizo (there was only one burrito on the breakfast menu and you could choose your meat). I am lactose intolerant so the burrito never stated that it had anything in that regard. The women brang out our food and it was covered in sour cream which I stated “I was unaware the item had sour cream, I am unable to eat sour cream” she told me to wipe it off. When I open the burrito it did not have eggs or potatoes as stated but rather a ton of rice and beans. I went up and stated I ordered the chorizo burrito on the breakfast menu and she stated “no you didn’t you told me chorizo” which I was told it was NOT a full menu so didn’t feel the need to differentiate from the only breakfast burrito on the menu. The cook looked at me and said well throw it away if you don’t want it but I’m not remaking a burrito. Needless to say the worst customer service and I couldn’t even take a bite of a $13 burrito I paid for."
"A real hidden gem. This may be the best Mexican in NYC. A real authentic feel the entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. Great menu, lovely owner, brilliant food and all for a very reasonable price. Try the breakfast burrito. I will very much be back."
"Absolutely amazing! From the reviews I wanted to check this place out, but I wasn't clear if there was seating to dine in. So I was headed to planet Taco. I am always looking for authentic Mexican tacos. I got the planet taco, saw the menu and atmosphere and turned around. I was ready to eat on the street if I had to. Arrived at this place and was pleasantly surprised there was seating inside. Also very surprised to see a variety of Mexican products and produce for sale. They were fresh mangoes, and home packaged various dry peppers and similar items. The menu is quite large, but like I said I was just looking for tacos. The inside is nothing fancy But relatively clean, atmosphere is bland. The service is very friendly and attentive. You can order to go or to dine inside. You place your order and pay at a window type counter. They'll bring your food out to you when it's ready. I ordered four types of tacos: chorizo, bistec, al pastor, cisena. I've never had cisena beef before. All of them were juicy, succulent, hardy, absolutely so delicious. Notable were the two sauces that came on the side, one verde and one very hot red sauce. I thought at first it was a stingy amount, but they gave just enough. I really really really really like the red sauce. What a fantastic literal hole in the wall. I was so impressed. I visited multiple Mexican hole restaurants during my stay in New York City for tacos. This was my absolute favorite. No frills, high quality deliciousness. The pricing was extremely reasonable. I will definitely be back, and you should go."
"Genuinely our favourite restaurant in NYC. The food here is incredible and some of the best we’ve ever had. The authenticity and attention to the flavour was amazing - this is proper Mexican food. Fair prices (about $5 per taco). We came back twice in our visit to the city in May 2022. Staff were so friendly and kind. We primarily had the Al Pastor tacos and these were incredible. Huge, tasted amazing, lovely presentation. We also tried the guacamole and this was so fresh and delicious. We also had the bistec and pollo tacos (both great but Al Pastor was our favourite) as well as a bistec platillo (great tasting beans, beef and rice). Had the tamarindo juice drink and the horchata too. Both were incredible!! Hope to come back to NYC and genuinely is worth the trip alone."
"So good that I returned the next day for breakfast. I ordered the spicy pork tacos and chorizo breakfast burrito. Both outstanding in flavour and value. A very happy customer."
